Charlestown & St Austell Bay

Charlestown is a small harbour village south-east of St Austell, home of Square Sail’s fleet of square-rigged ships and often used for filming. The harbour was built to export china clay, and the Shipwreck Treasure Museum is in the village. Eden Project is two or three miles away, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey five or six.

To the east is Fowey, long the home of Daphne du Maurier, and Lanhydrock is within a 20-minute drive. Carlyon Bay, a mile east, has an 18-hole championship golf course.
