Pitch & Putt in Cornwall

A step up from crazy golf - real holes, a full swing and a couple of clubs. Here's where to play a proper short round in Cornwall, from Holywell Bay's clifftop course near Newquay to community greens in Hayle, Falmouth and Bude, plus a Plymouth option.

Back to Activities

Pitch & putt sits between crazy golf and a full round of golf - real holes played with a proper swing and a small selection of clubs, but shorter and far less intimidating than a championship course. Cornwall's standout course is Holywell Bay Golf near Newquay, an 18-hole layout overlooking the sand dunes and cliffs of Holywell Bay that's regularly rated among the best pitch & putt courses in the South West, with club hire and a ball included in the admission price and no need to book ahead. Also in Newquay, on Pentire Headland, The Kraken Pitch & Putt is a smaller 9-hole, 10-acre course attached to a popular cafe/kiosk, with views over Fistral and Crantock beaches.

West Cornwall has two further options around Hayle: Penwith Pitch & Putt near St Erth offers a full 18 holes alongside its crazy golf and footgolf, while Gwinear Pitch & Putt is a smaller, countryside 9-hole course set across ten acres with its own on-site cafe. Down on the south coast, Falmouth Pitch & Putt at Swanpool combines a 9-hole course with a separate crazy golf course and cafe, close to Swanpool Beach.

Up in North Cornwall, Bude Pitch & Putt on Summerleaze Downs has a longer, more complicated history - see the note below before planning a visit. And if you're staying in or travelling via Plymouth, Central Park Pitch & Putt offers a handy 9-hole course as part of the wider Central Park Golf Course, right in the city.

Bude Pitch & Putt: confirm before you travel

Bude's council-owned pitch & putt on Summerleaze Downs has opened, closed and reopened more than once since 2019, and Bude-Stratton Town Council put the site out to tender for a new leaseholder in autumn 2025. We couldn't confirm its operating status for the current season at the time of writing - check the Town Council's pitch & putt page or its Facebook page before making a special trip.

Good to know before you go

  • No need to bring clubs: most courses, including Holywell Bay, include club hire and a ball in the admission price.
  • Weather-dependent: all of these courses are outdoors, so opening can vary in poor weather - especially at smaller, council-run sites like Bude.
  • Several combine formats: Penwith and Falmouth Pitch & Putt both offer crazy golf and footgolf alongside their pitch & putt course on the same site.
  • Confirm accessibility: terrain varies from flat greens to sloped, coastal or countryside ground - contact the venue directly about step-free access before visiting. Holywell Bay's course is not pushchair-friendly.
  • Age guidance: Holywell Bay suggests children aged 5 and over; check with smaller venues for their own guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cornwall's main traditional pitch & putt courses are Holywell Bay Golf near Newquay (18 holes, widely rated as one of the best in the South West), The Kraken Pitch & Putt on Pentire Headland in Newquay (9 holes, with a cafe/kiosk), Penwith Pitch & Putt near St Erth/Hayle (18 holes), Gwinear Pitch & Putt in Hayle (9 holes), Falmouth Pitch & Putt at Swanpool (9 holes), and Bude Pitch & Putt on Summerleaze Downs, though the Bude course's current operating status should be confirmed before visiting.

Yes. Central Park Pitch & Putt, part of Central Park Golf Course, offers a 9-hole course in Plymouth itself, on Mayflower Drive.

Pitch & putt uses real, longer holes played with a full golf swing and a couple of clubs rather than just a putter, closer to a short round of golf than a game. Crazy and adventure golf use short, obstacle-filled holes played with a putter only, designed for fun rather than golfing skill. A few Cornwall venues, including Penwith and Falmouth Pitch & Putt, offer both side by side.

Bude Pitch & Putt on Summerleaze Downs has had an inconsistent operating history, opening in 2019, closing and reopening more than once, and going out to tender for a new leaseholder via Bude-Stratton Town Council in late 2025. Its current status for the 2026 season was not confirmed at the time of writing, so check with Bude-Stratton Town Council or the course's Facebook page before making a special trip.

No. Cornwall's pitch & putt courses, including Holywell Bay, typically include club hire and balls in the admission price, so you don't need your own equipment to play.

Prices, opening times, facilities and accessibility are set by individual operators and may change without notice. Please check directly with each venue before travelling. Cornwall Online is not responsible for the content of external websites linked from this page.
