Port Isaac has been welcoming visitors for more than 100 yrs, but unlike many other villages in Cornwall, it still retains it traditional character and remains unspoilt. It is a cluster of pretty white washed cottages huddled around a picturesque harbour, which is the heart of a thriving fishing community. It has steep hills and narrow streets and the harbour is flanked by majestic cliffs, towering above the Atlantic.

Port Isaac has numerous restaurants, specialising in local seafood, shops for all essentials, a post office, a pub and a wide selection of local arts and crafts. Visit the excellent pottery, which is open all year, and see the original artwork by Katie Childs at her Cliffside Gallery.

There is a local diving school and fishing trips can be taken from the harbour, when you can catch your own mackerel and even spot a basking shark or two. Spend a balmy evening on the Platt listening to the weekly concert (in season) by the St. Breward Silver Band or the ever popular local "Fishermans Friends", shanty singing. Leave the car behind and walk the well kept Coastal footpaths to Port Quin, Rock or Trebarwith. The views are breathtaking. Whole days can be whiled away, crabbing in the rock pools left behind on Port Isaac beach at low tide, children love it, (adults too!)

Hathaway is an impressive Victorian house, beautifully restored, and situated in one of the most enviable positions anywhere in Cornwall. It sits on the west side of the harbour and has superb views over the bay, village and coastline as far as Tintagel (or even Hartland Point in Devon on a clear day). Hathaway is approached by a narrow lane, which means there is no passing traffic to mar your view or interrupt your peace- Sit out on our patios and drink in the beauty and tranquility or watch the fishing boats going about their daily work. The coastal footpath runs past the bottom of our garden.

BED & BREAKFAST
Hathaway comprises of five bedrooms,

On the 1st floor are Beds 1,2 and 3, double/twin rooms (able to sleep 3 people) with en suite showers and toilets and colour televisions. Beds 1 and 2 have superb sea-views. On the 2nd floor, Bed 4 is a small double also with superb sea-view, and colour t.v. and Bed 5 is a very small bunk bedded room (ideal for children), both rooms share a pretty bathroom with bath / shower / toilet / washbasin. There is also a seperate toilet. All bedrooms have washbasins with hot and cold running water, tea making facillities and shaver points. A full English breakfast is served each morning in the pretty dining room overlooking the harbour. What better way to start the day.

Self Catering Flat
For those who prefer the flexibility of self catering.

Our flat for two people, is situated on the second floor, entrance is through the house. The flat is of open plan design. It has a well-equipped kitchen, with a breakfast bar and two stools. There is a comfortable lounge area with a colour television. Here too, is a very large Velux window, which opens up and out to form a balcony/window seat, from where a view of the bay and coastline can be enjoyed. The bedroom area has a double bed and there is a chest of drawers and fitted wardrobe. There is another window here, which overlooks a well-maintained garden to the back of the house. The bathroom has a bath with electric shower, washbasin and W.C. From the flat, by way of steps and a hatch door, guests can use a private sunbathing area on the rooftop (sun not guaranteed!). From here there is a bird's eye view of the village, harbour and coastline.

Whether your visit to Cornwall is in the Spring, when the wild flowers and hedgerows are most glorious, or high summer when the surfing is super, or in the autumn, when the colours are changing and things are quieter, you can be assured of a warm welcome. Even the climate is milder than most other parts of the country. Journey times these days can be as little as 4 hrs from London and 2hrs from Bristol, and remember, out of the main season the roads in Cornwall are amazingly quiet.

The world acclaimed Eden Project is just a pleasant drive away.

To reach Hathaway, drive down through the village to the harbour, and take the narrow entrance just past the old fish cellars on your right, signposted coastal path and Port Isaac Pottery, drive to the top of Roscarrock Hill where you will find car parking and the entrance to Hathaway.
