The most relaxing way to see the Cornish countryside is often from horseback. Cornwall's riding centres range from small family-run farms offering gentle hacks through woodland and along bridleways, to larger BHS-approved schools with full lesson programmes, and a handful of coastal stables offering beach rides.
Every stable listed on this page has been checked against Cornwall Council's official register of licensed riding establishments and/or an active website or recent reviews, to make sure it's genuinely still operating. A number of previously well-known Cornish stables have since closed, converted to livery-only yards, or lost their public riding licence, and have been left off this list rather than risk sending you somewhere that no longer offers riding.
Licensing & Safety
Any establishment that hires horses or ponies to the public in England must hold a riding establishment licence from the local council. Cornwall Council publishes a current register of licensed stables, including star ratings from their most recent inspection. It's worth checking this register for the latest status before booking, since licences and ratings can change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need riding experience to go pony trekking in Cornwall?
No. Most Cornish riding centres cater for complete beginners as well as experienced riders, matching horses to ability. It's worth mentioning your experience level when you book so they can pair you with a suitable horse.
Are the riding stables in Cornwall licensed?
Riding establishments that hire out horses to the public must hold a licence from Cornwall Council under the Riding Establishments Act. The Council publishes a register of current licence holders, which was used to check the stables listed on this page.
Can I ride on the beach in Cornwall?
Several centres, including those near Perranporth and Mullion, offer beach rides, usually outside the main summer bathing season or at quieter times of day. Check with the stable directly, as beach access rules vary by location and time of year.
Listings are provided as a guide only and checked against current websites, reviews and the Cornwall Council licensed riding establishments register (correct as of 5 August 2026). Details are subject to change – please confirm with the stable directly before visiting.
