Cornwall Tourist Attractions

Days Out & Things to Do Across West, North & South Cornwall

Cornwall packs a remarkable range of days out into one county, from world-famous landmarks to small independent museums and gardens that reward a bit of local knowledge. The dramatic coastline provides the backdrop for attractions such as St Michael's Mount, the clifftop Minack Theatre and Land's End, while inland the county's deep mining history is preserved at sites including Geevor Tin Mine, Poldark Mine and the engine houses of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

Cornwall is also home to some of the country's finest gardens, many benefiting from the county's mild, sheltered microclimate. The Eden Project's giant Biomes and the Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell are the best known, but Trebah, Glendurgan, Trelissick and Trengwainton all reward a visit, alongside National Trust houses such as Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Antony House, and English Heritage sites including Tintagel, Pendennis, St Mawes and Restormel castles.

For a family day out, Cornwall's theme parks, wildlife centres and adventure attractions cater for all ages, from Paradise Park and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary to Camel Creek Adventure Park, Lappa Valley Steam Railway and Newquay Zoo, plus indoor options such as Kidzworld Cornwall for wet-weather days. Museums covering maritime history, witchcraft, telegraphy and rural life sit alongside touring and open-air theatres including the Minack and Sterts.

Use the region guides below — West, North and South Cornwall — to browse attractions by area, or jump straight to a category using the links above for family days, gardens, heritage sites or historic houses. Frequently asked questions

Cornwall's best-known attractions include the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell, St Michael's Mount at Penzance, the Minack Theatre and Land's End in the far west, Tintagel Castle and the Museum of Witchcraft & Magic in the north, and National Trust houses such as Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Antony House. Beyond the headline names, Cornwall also has dozens of smaller museums, gardens, wildlife centres and family theme parks worth seeking out.

Yes. Many Cornish attractions are aimed squarely at family days out, including theme parks such as Camel Creek and Lappa Valley Steam Railway, wildlife centres such as Paradise Park and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, and all-weather indoor venues such as Kidzworld Cornwall. Heritage sites including Bodmin Jail, Poldark Mine and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall also run activities and trails designed for children.

Both are conservation charities that care for historic sites, but they are separate organisations with separate membership schemes. National Trust properties in Cornwall include Lanhydrock, Cotehele, Antony House, Trerice and St Michael's Mount, while English Heritage looks after sites such as Tintagel Castle, Pendennis Castle, St Mawes Castle and Restormel Castle. Membership of one does not give free entry to the other's sites.

Yes, the Eden Project near St Austell is one of Cornwall's most popular paid attractions, with its giant Biomes housing rainforest and Mediterranean planting, extensive outdoor gardens, and seasonal events. It's a good option in wet weather thanks to the covered Biomes, and is usually combined with a full day out given its size.

Several attractions on this page are free or low-cost to visit, including the Camel Trail and Mineral Tramways cycle routes, many beaches and coastal walks, and some galleries and museums with free general admission such as Penlee House in Penzance. Coastal landmarks such as Land's End and Tintagel can also be viewed without paying for the paid visitor attractions built around them, though car parking charges usually apply.

It varies by venue. Larger attractions such as the Eden Project, St Michael's Mount and the National Trust properties often benefit from booking online in advance, especially in peak summer season, and this can sometimes be cheaper than paying on the day. Smaller, independent attractions usually don't require booking but it's worth checking opening days and times directly before travelling, particularly outside the main season.

Most of Cornwall's outdoor attractions, gardens and family theme parks are at their best from Easter through to September, with some closing or reducing hours over winter. Indoor attractions such as museums, aquariums and covered venues like the Eden Project's Biomes make good options year-round, including on wet days.
