Gardens & Parks in Cornwall

Subtropical Valley Gardens, Estates & the Eden Project

Cornwall's mild, sheltered microclimate makes it one of the best places in Britain to visit a garden, and the county is home to a remarkable concentration of them. In the west, National Trust gardens including Trengwainton, Glendurgan and Trelissick sit alongside Trebah's sub-tropical valley and the Barbara Hepworth Museum's sculpture garden in St Ives.

To the south, the Eden Project's giant Biomes and the Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell are Cornwall's best-known garden attractions, while Caerhays Estate draws visitors each spring for its camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons, and Antony Woodland Garden and Mount Edgcumbe Country Park offer sweeping estuary and parkland settings near Torpoint.

Several of the gardens below are seasonal or have specific opening periods, so it's worth checking the notes and the garden's own website before planning a visit, particularly outside the main spring-to-summer season.

Seasonal opening & access notes

A few practical notes on seasonal gardens: Caerhays Estate is open spring only, roughly mid-February to mid-June, and closed the rest of the year. Trewithen Gardens is also seasonal, open roughly March to September. Trengwainton Gardens has had parts of the garden closed while recovering from storm damage — check current access before visiting. Hidden Valley – The Puzzle Park (formerly Hidden Valley Discovery Park) is seasonal, roughly April to September. Mount Edgcumbe's wider country park, by contrast, is free to enter and open year-round even when the house itself is not.
