Centrally located in the small hamlet of Crowntown, the lodges are just 3 miles from the ancient market town of Helston, famous for its annual Flora Day celebrations and the traditional Furry Dance, which winds through the streets each May. Helston makes a useful base for exploring the Lizard Peninsula, with shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants and everyday amenities, and some of South Cornwall's most attractive beaches and coastal villages close by.
The picturesque fishing harbour of Porthleven is only around a 10-minute drive away – a working harbour with independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, and the South West Coast Path running right through the town.

Helston – gateway to the Lizard
Helston is one of Cornwall's oldest market towns and the natural gateway to the Lizard Peninsula. Each May the town comes alive for Flora Day, when dancers perform the famous Furry Dance through the streets. Just outside the town, the National Trust's Penrose estate leads through woodland to Loe Pool, Cornwall's largest natural lake, and on to the shingle bank of Loe Bar. Families with young children can also enjoy Ferdi's Indoor Play, a children's soft play centre on the edge of Helston at the former Flambards site.
Porthleven
Around ten minutes' drive from Crown Lodges, Porthleven is Britain's most southerly port and a lively harbour town with independent shops, galleries and a growing reputation for food, from harbourside cafés to restaurants and pubs. The beaches around Porthleven and the coast path towards Loe Bar make for superb walks, and the harbour is famous for its dramatic winter storm views.
Beaches and coves of the Lizard Peninsula
The Lizard Peninsula is home to some of Cornwall's most beautiful beaches, all within an easy drive of Crowntown:
- Gunwalloe Church Cove – a sandy cove beside the little church of St Winwaloe.
- Poldhu Cove – a family favourite with golden sand and a beach café.

Visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on the Helford River, walk out to Lizard Point – mainland Britain's most southerly point – or explore the mining heritage of West Cornwall. Further afield, St Michael's Mount, Penzance, Falmouth and St Ives are all within a comfortable day trip.
