The Monkey Sanctuary is located close to the beautiful harbour town of Looe the sanctuary is home to a large colony of woolly monkeys.

Founded by Leonard Williams in 1964 the aim of the monkey sanctuary has always been to provide a stable setting in which woolly monkeys can live as naturally as possible.

This educational family day out offers regular talks by keepers about the work that they are undertaking as well as the wonderful opportunity to see these beautiful creatures forage and play in surrounding built to replicate the monkeys' natural habitat as closely as possible.

 

As well as the monkeys the monkey sanctuary is also home to a group a rare horseshoe bats which live in the cellar of 'Murrayton House'. This magnificent grade II listed house was built in 1854 but is now home to the monkey sanctuary's team of keepers and volunteers. The bats can be viewed via special CCTV cameras which have been positioned in the cellar.

The monkey sanctuary also offers all the other facilities that you would expect from a great family day out such as a large outdoor children's play area, an indoor activity room, gift shop and the wonderful Tree Top café which specialises in superb vegetarian cuisine.
