Suncove, Gullrock,
Port Gaverne, Port Isaac, Wadebridge, North Cornwall. PL29 3QS
Port Gaverne is a tiny old fishing port and the historic
loading Quay for the Delabole Slate Quarry, situated on the North Cornwall
coast, close to the picturesque fishing village of Port Isaac and about
halfway between Padstow and Tintagel.
Gullrock is a group of nine dwellings, created from
the 200yr old Liberty Fish cellars and stands less than 100 yards from
the head of the beach (great for rock pooling, paddling & safe swimming)
and the local pub at Port Gaverne. They are built around a sunny courtyard
garden, which is available for the use of all residents; there is a further
River Garden just outside the courtyard gate, a good spot for an evening
barbecue.
SUNCOVE
Suncove is on the ground floor and and is approached
through the courtyard; it has views up the Port Gaverne valley. It sleeps
six in one double, one triple and one single bedroom.
Each bedroom has its own wash basin; the beds all
have duck down duvets, which have covers, over which you should put your
own covers or sheets.
The sitting room has a fitted carpet, colour television,
radio/CD/cassette player, DVD player and comfortable three- piece suite.
The kitchen has modern fitted units and worktops,
stainless steel sink, standard electric cooker, microwave, fridge freezer,
dishwasher, toaster, filter coffee-maker and all the usual kitchen utensils
and crockery. The dining area is situated at the end of the kitchen, with
a large table to seat six. Bathroom & WC, airing cupboard and electric
shower over the bath. Heating is by night storage heaters in every room
and extra electric fires. Electricity is included in the rental.
The Barn is just outside the courtyard gate and houses
a payphone, washing machine, spin dryer and tumble dryer; there are drying
lines both inside and out
Parking - Suncove has a space for one car; if you
bring more than one car, there is parking in one of the public car parks
either in Port Gaverne, or Port Isaac where a week permit was £12
at last check and valid in most NCDC carparks.
Pets with responsible owners are welcome at Gullrock.
Please do not leave animals unsupervised in the cottage or wandering in
the courtyard grounds. They can be exercised in the River Garden or there
are pleasant walks over The Main alongside the harbour to the Castle Rock.
Local facilities include the Port Gaverne Inn, two
minutes walk away, which serves bar and restaurant meals and The Headland
Hotel on the hilltop above. In nearby Port Isaac there are several pubs,
wine bar, restaurants, a fish and chip take-away, The Pea Pod Deli selling
papers, freshly baked bread, cakes and Pasties and other local produce.
The Co-Op store is open every day for long hours and will provide most
of your day to day groceries. The nearby town of Wadebridge has most of
the facilities one could need, including Bike hire for the Camel trail
between Bodmin and Padstow.
Good food can be found at many pubs and restaurants in Port
Gaverne, Port Isaac and the surrounding villages.
There is excellent walking both ways along the coast path
and inland from Port Isaac and the well known surfing beaches at nearby
Polzeath and Daymer Bay. There is sailing at Padstow
and Rock. The Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and many other
similar attractions are around an hour or so drive away.
