PORT ISAAC
Port Isaac is an unspoiled fishing village
located on the stunning and beautiful North Cornwall coast lines - famous
for its oustanding beaches offering all sorts of water sports as well
as its rugged coastline and associated coastal path. The village itself
is full of interest and old world charm, with narrow streets and its picturesque
harbour from where the fisherman still bring in a daily catch.
The village offers a small beach providing
good safe bathing as well as an excellent opportunity for crab hunting
in the rock pools when the tide is low. Throughout the summer months,
every Friday evening, the local men's folk singers (Fisherman's Friends)
perform outside the Slipway Hotel opposite the harbour entrance and every
Thursday evening, the St. Breward Silver Band also play on the Platt -
finishing up with a "Floral Dance" up and back down through the village.
OTHER INFORMATION
Car Parking:
Port Isaac is a historic and working fishing village with narrow streets
which add to its quirky charm and delightful character. This means it
was never designed to cater for traffic and for many this is part of the
pleasure of visiting. When the tide is out, parking is available on the
beach but we recommend parking in the North Cornwall District Council
car park at the top of the village (less than 10 minutes walk away). Here
you can buy a 7 day ticket for £21 GBP - excellent value as it also
allows you to use car parks at Wadebridge, Padstow, Polzeath, Boscastle
etc.
It is possible to park on Fore Street, near
to Rosemary Cottage for a short period of time to drop off and collect
suitcases and belongings, space permitting.
Changeover:
Saturday is changeover day. On the day of arrival you will be able
to get into the cottage after 15.00 and will be required to vacate by
10.00. However our aim is to make your stay as relaxing as possible and
although not promised there may be room for some flexibility on this,
particularly during less busy periods.
We regret to inform you that Rosemary Cottage
is a non smoking property and we regret that pets are not allowed.
BEACHES
Polzeath:
Located some 5 miles from the village, the large expanse of sand at Polzeath
is a magnet to both surfers and families.
Daymer Bay:
Set in the heart of Betjeman country, Daymer Bay is a wind/kite surfers
paradise with appeal too for small children and their buckets and spades.
St. Enodoc Church is within walking distance and provides the final resting
place for the once Poet Laureat.
Camel Estuary:
The tidal waters stretch from the mouth of the estuary some five miles
south towards Wadebridge and up to a mile wide between Rock and Padstow.
Here one can enjoy the calmer, sheltered waters as well as a whole variety
of water sports.
Padstow:
Home to Rick Steins world famous fish restaurant and a picturesque harbour.
Visitors can hire bikes from Padstow and cycle along the level Camel Trail
to Wadebridge or beyond.
