Bed & Breakfast
in Launceston &
The Tamar Valley
Near Dartmoor & Bodmin Moor
North Cornwall
An excellent base for touring the area, all of Cornwall
or North Devon
Rezare Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast offers comfortable, characterful
accommodation with an emphasis on good food. Situated within the Tamar
Valley on the Cornwall / Devon border, midway between Bodmin moor and
Dartmoor, you will be perfectly placed to explore the region's many and
varied attractions, which include beautiful walking, horse riding and
cycling country; canoeing, sailing, salmon and sea trout fishing on the
River Tamar; stunning coastlines; many places of historical interest;
and a strong regional food culture. Dogs are very welcome.
The small hamlet of Rezare is nestled above the Inny Valley,
in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a peaceful and relaxed
environment which, although only 6 miles from Launceston, and within easy
reach of the main roads which connect to wherever you wish to go, is far
enough from the rush of modern life to allow you to instantly forget that
it exists, and is the ideal, restful base to return to after your days
out exploring.
Although no longer a working farm, the surrounding area
is entirely agricultural, which means that on the rare occasions that
any traffic passes through, it is almost guaranteed to be a tractor. A
number of residents keep their own animals, including sheep, cattle, and
chickens, and the extensive birdlife produces a variety of sound which
is a joy to wake up to.
On clear days both moors are visible from many points around
the hamlet, with Kit Hill dominating the view from all bedrooms and the
dining room / guests' lounge. A short walk away is the River Tamar, its
wooded valley meandering down towards Plymouth, passing on its way many
beautiful and interesting areas to visit, including Calstock, Morwellham
Quay and Cothele, to name just a few.
The house itself is full of character, with many original
features still in place. The main section was built some time in the mid
- late 1600's, a mixture of granite, slate, and whatever other stone was
to hand being used for the walls on the ground floor, cob ( mud, straw
and hair etc ) on the first floor, with several extensions added over
the centuries, none less than a couple of hundred years ago.
All bedrooms ( two doubles, one twin and one single ) are
of a good size, and are surprisingly light and airy ( unusual for a property
of this age ), are furnished to a high standard with very comfortable
beds and antique furniture, have their own en-suite bath or shower room,
tv and tea-making facilities, and have access to our free WiFi network.
Breakfast and evening meals are served in the slate-floored,
stone-walled dining room. This room also doubles as the guests' lounge,
with several comfortable arm chairs and antique wooden chairs to choose
from, the large, welcoming wood burner being lit most evenings from the
Autumn through to Spring.
Three-course meals are available most evenings, freshly
prepared by Nanette, who spent 20 years working in the catering industry.
The menus, which change daily, make full use of the fact that we have
many excellent producers and suppliers of meat, fish, vegetables and cheeses
locally. We use seasonal produce whenever possible, from our own vegetable
garden when available, and use ingredients that speak for themselves,
cooking them simply and with care, with the minimum of fuss.
All special dietary requirements are catered for, and if
you have any particular likes or dislikes, we will be happy to take them
into consideration. We are licensed, and stock a range of award-winning,
locally produced wines, beers and ciders.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions
you may have; we look forward to welcoming you to our home. Nanette &
Anthony Manning.
