Self Catering accommodation is provided in the form of 3 luxury barn conversions that were completed in the summer of 2007 and an annexe to the farmhouse. A superb location for a peaceful and relaxing holiday with cottages accommodating from 2 - 8 guests in each. Alternatively, Self-Catering visitors can have their meals provided for them by arrangement, making this an ideal venue for groups wanting a secluded Country retreat holiday. Located almost centrally between the North and South Coast, Polhilsa proves to be an ideal base for visitors. Several beaches are only a short drive away as are the many National Trust properties found throughout Devon and Cornwall. The National Marine Aquarium situated on Plymouth's historical barbican is easily accessible as is Cornwall's fascinating Eden Project. An abundance of quiet country walks can be found in the area and subject to availability, cycles may be hired to tour the tranquil country lanes. A host of golf clubs are also located within easy driving distance, together with plenty of attractions to occupy the family. The main farming enterprise at Polhilsa is Arable, growing crops such as Barley, Wheat, Oats, Oilseed Rape and Potatoes. Guests are often greeted by a patchwork of fields dependant on the season. Fields growing corn, stubble or the ploughed fields of autumn surround lush green grass fields. Sheep can often be seen grazing the permanent pasture fields. The name 'Polhilsa' has the meaning of rising springs and this is echoed by the fishing lakes situated at the Farm. Both lakes have been constructed within the last 15 years and are fed solely by rising spring waters. Planted woodland hosting an abundance of wildlife surrounds the lakes. Guests are welcome to walk the banks enjoying the wildlife and peaceful sounds of the countryside. Constructed in 1995, the Trout Lake covers approximately 1½ acres of land. Our second lake is well stocked with carp and provides good angling sport for the coarse fisherman. Fishing
is free to guests staying at the farm. |
