There are so many wonderful things to do that
are so easily accessible from Polgwedhen Lodge.
Beaches. We are so lucky to be situated
betwixt the two coasts. The nearest beach is at St. Agnes on the North
Coast, some 5 miles away, whereas Falmouth on the South Coast is approximately
10 miles.
The North Coast, with its dramatic towering
cliffs and huge sandy beaches is renowned for surfing and safe bathing,
whereas the South Coast with its small, picturesque coves and river estuaries
is well known for sailing and also offers safe bathing. A guest once described
the rugged North Coast as champagne and the softer South Coast as vintage
port!
Walking is a fascination at any time
of the year, either inland along the lanes, tracks and footpaths, across
brooding moors or on the South West Coastal Footpath which runs around
the entire Cornish coast. You can join the path anywhere along the coast
and even a short walk offers astounding, breathtaking views. The birdwatcher
too will not be disappointed.
Gardens. The area is rich in historic
houses and outstanding gardens. Amongst others, The Eden Project, The
Lost Gardens of Heligan. Trewithen, Trebah, Glendurgan, Trelissick, Trengwainton,
Lanhydrock and many more are a gardener's dream. All are easily accessible
by car.
Golf. No less than 6 golf courses,
both links and parkland are in easy reach; the nearest is at Truro.
Cycling. Nearby, at Bissoe, you can
join the Coast-to-Coast Cycle Trail, a scenic traffic free cycle track
running from Portreath on the North Coast to Devoran on the South coast.
Bike hire facilities are available at Bissoe.
