Holiday Cottages in Mousehole
Tucked into a beautiful setting along Cornwall's west coast,
three miles westward around Mounts Bay from Penzance, picturesque Mousehole
retains all the wonderful original character and charm of a traditional
fishing village.
Granite-built cottages cluster round a protected harbour
used by both working boats and visiting pleasure craft. The harbour itself
has a safe, sheltered beach ideal for families with small children, and
the narrow streets are full of small shops, galleries and restaurants.
A famous wild bird hospital overlooks the village, where many thousands
of birds - especially sea birds - have been saved during the 80 years
or so since it opened.
St Clement's Isle lies just offshore outside the harbour
- a rocky little islet said to have once been the home of an ancient hermit
- and a few hundred yards along the coast from the village is a huge cave
that some say is where the village's 'mouse hole' name originated.
A coastal path with spectacular scenery runs from Mousehole
to Lamorna - one of Cornwall's loveliest coves - and more cliff top walks
and sandy beaches. Penzance and the famous St Michael's Mount are just
a few miles away.
