Museums and Art Galleries in Cornwall

This guide has been published by the MAGIC Consortium, an independant group of Museums and Art Galleries in Cornwall. They are owned by local charitable trusts, Councils and individuals, or some other body. They are open for your pleasere and will hopefully add interest and enjoyment to your holiday which we hope will be enriched by knowing more about this fascinating county of Cornwall. Most members charge admission, usually with reductions for children and senior citizens.

Geevor Tin Mine and Heritage Centre

An experience not to be missed, and an important part of Cornwall's rich industrial heritage. Regular tours by expert guides are given around the surface plant, including a short 'walk-in' underground experience.
Excellent Craft and Book shop, 'Count House Cafe' and walks along the beautiful Coastal Footpath.

Location Beside the B3306 road from St Ives to Lands End, at Pendeen, St Just.
Opening 11.00am (10 30am Easter to September) - 5.30pm (7pm in school holidays). Last guided tour of surface plant at 4pm (5.30pm in summer school holidays).

St Ives GallerySt Ives Society of Artists

The St Ives Society of Artists was founded in 1927 and is committed to the support and exhibition of representational work, bias towards the "open air" principle of its founders.
The gallery overlooks the harbour that was the inspiration for so much of their work. Occasional group and one-man shows are held in the new Mariner's Gallery.

Location Old Mariner's Church, Norway Square, adjacent to Sloop car park St Ives.
Opening March - early November, Monday- Saturday 10.00am - 12.30pm & 2.00pm - 4.30pm.
Mid December - Mid January same hours. Closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day

The Wayside Folk Museum, Zennor Zennor Museum

A unique private museum, founded in 1935, covering every aspect of life in Zennor and district from 3,000 BC to 1930s. Waterwheels, Millhouse, Wheelwright's, Blacksmith's, a Miller's cottage with kitchen and parlour, plus exhibits on tin mining, fishing, domestic life and archaeology. Children's Museum Quiz Trail. Nearby is the famous Mermaid Chair in the village church.

Tage GalleryTate Gallery, St Ives

Tate Gallery St Ives presents changing displays of 20th century modern art in the context of Cornwall. Displays are drawn from the Tate Gallery's collection. There is an exciting progamme of events and ongoing displays of work by invited contemporary artists. Administered jointly with the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Newlyn Art Gallery

Newlym Art Gallery Situated on Newlyn Green overlooking Mounts Bay, Newlyn Art Gallery presents an exciting and varied programme of contemporary art and related events throughout the year. The gallery focuses on exhibitions which reflect the quality and diversity of local, national and international contemporary art practice.
The gallery shop stocks a range of contemporary craft. paintings and prints as well as quality cards and publications.

Location Approaching Newlyn, the gallery is the first building on the sea-side of the coast road from Penzance.

Trinity House National Lighthouse CentreTrinity House National Lighthouse Centre

One of the few national museums outside London, the National Lighthouse Centre houses the finest collection of lighthouse equipment in the world. The exhibition, with audio-visual theatre, illustrates the history of lighthouses, shows how they were built and the conditions under which their keepers lived.
