Out
and About in Tintagel and Cornwall
All the amenities of Tintagel village with its selection
of shops and pubs are nearby, as are stunning cliff walks leading
down to Castle Beach, Bossiney Cove and Rocky Valley. The medieval
ruins of 'King Arthur's Castle', King Arthur's Great Halls,
and the 14th century "Old Post Office" are within
a few minutes walk. The beautiful beach of Trebarwith
Strand is approximately 2 miles by road.
Tintagel is
an ideal base for touring the county, located on the North Coast,
with easy access to the Atlantic Highway and the A30. We are within
'day trip distance' to all major attractions in Cornwall, from the
Hartland peninsula, down to the south coast fishing ports of Looe
and Polperro, and along the full length of the county to the maritime
museum at Falmouth and of course St. Ives, Newquay and Lands End.
For those who wish to explore the
local area, the North Cornwall coastline is designated as an 'area
of outstanding natural beauty'. During the spring the cliff tops
and coastal path has a fabulous display of wildflowers; creating
a profusion of colour in a mild climate that brings the early migrating
birds to the estuaries and shores.
The National Trust and
English Heritage have a number of properties and gardens
through out Cornwall, which are easily accessible during the early
and later times of the year when the children are still at school
and the roads are relatively traffic free.
Close by are the beaches of Bossiney
just to the North end and Trebarwith; a 10 min. drive. Bossiney
is a stunning little cove with impressive views along the coast.
It is reached via a series of steps cut into the cliff - down a
very steep decent - but the effort is well worth it. You could choose
to walk along the cliffs past Bossiney Haven to the stunningly beautiful
Rocky Valley.
The beach at Trebarwith is equally
impressive with the added benefit of a lifeguard in attendance during
the busy times of the year Trebarwith is easily accessed from the
road or you could enjoy a pleasant stroll along the coastal path
to get to it - passing the remnants of the areas coastal quarries
- now very picturesque reminders of the days when people literally
carved a living out of the cliff face.
Tintagel
lies between the fishing villages of Boscastle and Port Isaac. Both
villages have their own unique character - jewels in the North Cornwall
Crown - with quaint fishing harbours and the classic narrow Cornish
lanes running from them; winding their way through rows of 14th
century cottages.
