LOCAL AREA
The China Loft has quick, easy access to both
North and South coasts. The lovely Georgian harbour of Charlestown, with
its tall ships, character puns and beach is about three miles to the south,
there are spectacular walks along the south west coastal path and lovely
beach walks on the north coast, where the best surfing is also to be enjoyed.
Par beach, about three miles away is great for
families. The more energetic may seek out coves like Polridmouth,
near Fowey, which are accessible only on foot.
The A30 is about six miles to the north, so
the Loft is well-placed to explore the whole of Cornwall, from St
Ives and Penzance and the lovely gardens
like Trebah and Glendurgan,
near the Helford River, to Bude
and Bodmin Moor. Other attractions nearby include
the National Trust houses, Trerice
and Lanhydrock, The China
Clay Museum, Pine Gardens (on the A390
a mile away) and The Lost Gardens of Heligan,
near Mevagissey. Fowey,
seven miles away, is not to be missed. From there, there are summer boat
trips, including one to pretty Polperro.
A shop and a butcher's are about three minutes'
walk from the flat and a pub, The William Cookworthy, about seven minutes'
walk away - the Carclaze inn is a 10 minutes walk.A Tesco's supermarket
is about a mile's drive (on the A390) and a little further on is an Asda.
The Kings Head at Luxulyan, about two miles' drive, offers good pub food
(there's a lovely woodland walk here, too),
Charlestown has pubs and restaurants and Fowey
is not to be missed with its 26 pubs, restaurants and cafes. The White
Hart in St Austell is worth noting. The Britannia Inn a couple of miles
towards Par, has a good reputation and The Rashleigh Inn, on the beach
at Polkerris is a lovely place to dine while watching the sun set beyond
the charming harbour.
