The Barley Crush Self-catering Holiday Accommodation
We converted the Barley Crush so that our whole family can stay together at one time, in conjunction with Treveddoe. It is a roomy barn (which was used to crush the barley until the summer of 2000) and has made a beautiful self-contained house for 4/5 people. It has many unusual features such as the outside staircase (as well as the one inside) and upstairs sitting room, which make it very special indeed. It gives a great feeling of peace. There is a walled garden, ideal for all ages and is well placed in the centre of the farm with wonderful views all round. Cornwall is such a fantastic county with so much variety to enjoy, and the farm is centrally placed to make the most of it all. Both north and south coasts are only just over half an hour away with their fabulous beaches and famous surf. The renowned Cornish gardens are within easy reach, as are the golf courses, and now we have the Eden Project to add to the wealth of choice. But whatever you choose to do, it is always lovely to get back to the farm after a day out. The farm itself gives directly onto the moor to the north, and has the river Warleggan tumbling along its southern boundary. There are good walks through the ancient woodland, with beautiful wild flowers in the spring. It is a working farm, so there are cattle and sheep around. The nearest village is Warleggan. Bodmin and Liskeard offer good shopping for groceries, with an excellent fish shop in Liskeard; Trago Mills is only 6 miles away for the intrepid bargain hunter. Accommodation The Barley Crush sleeps 4/5 + cot, and is double-glazed throughout. The front door opens onto a hall with boiler, washing machine, tumble dryer, cupboard for coats and boots. The downstairs bedroom opens off this hall, which sleeps 2 with an extra full-size bed if it is wanted and built-in cupboard. The bathroom next door has a bath with shower, basin and loo. The kitchen is a step down from the hall, and is a joy. It has a well-tailored galley kitchen, with dishwasher, electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and everything else you could need, leaving a great space for the farmhouse table and chairs. A glazed door gives onto the walled garden. Open stairs, gated top and bottom, lead to the upstairs sitting room, which has exposed beams, television and video, payphone and a wood-burning stove. The second bedroom is one step up from the sitting room and has an ensuite bathroom with bath, shower, basin and loo. The bed is kingsize, and there is a walk-in clothes cupboard. A glazed door opens from the sitting room onto the old stone farm steps down to the garden. The upstairs room in the big barn across the farmyard is ideal for letting off steam on rainy days. Oil-fired Central Heating, Electricity and Logs are included in the rental. Bed linen can be hired at laundry rates. Pets are welcome if they are well behaved, Natural spring water supply. |
