Falmouth and Local Attractions

Trevaylor guest house is situated in Falmouth, a pretty seaside town in the south west of Cornwall. Falmouth is positioned at the mouth of the River Fal and overlooks Carrick Roads which is a large stretch of sheltered water famous for its safe sailing.

There is a maritime centre with its own marina for visiting yachtsmen. Falmouth is world famous for its maritime history and is recognised as being of strategic importance to the defence of Britain since Henry VIII built Pendennis and St. Mawes Castles on opposite sides of the estuary to protect the anchorage.

Visitors can enjoy an interesting day at the Castle and some musical evenings are there during the summer season.

During Victorian times, travellers to faraway destinations would return to Falmouth with wonderful collections of exotic plants which has led to the cultivation of public gardens.

Because of Falmouth's mild year-round climate these plants have flourished and now colourful displays of plants such as dracaena palms, camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons and even a banana tree are to be seen in and around Falmouth.

There are many gardens of interest within easy motoring distance of Falmouth, the most well known of all, of course, is the now world famous Lost Gardens of Heligan.

The town centre of Falmouth offers the discerning buyer a variety of shops, both specialist and mainstream, there is also a wide range of restaurants to tempt any palate.

Falmouth can also offer the opportunity of visiting the Cornwall Maritime Museum, The Falmouth Arts Centre and the Princess Pavilion which plays host to a programme of exhibitions, concerts and theatrical events throughout the year.
