PENZANCE Penzance is ideally situated as a base for touring and itself boasts many fine old buildings, dating from the 17th to 19th century, particularly along Chapel Street. ts most magnificent building is the exotically fronted Egyptian House built in 1830, while a few doors away is the Penzance Maritime Museum which houses a collection of nautical memorabilia. Opposite the harbour is the National Lighthouse Museum, tracing the history of local lighthouses which have guided ships away from the treacherous Cornish coastline for many centuries. The Penzance Museum and Art Gallery is set in beautiful gardens and features a selection of works by local artists along with a history of Cornwall Exhibitions. Finally, three miles east of Penzance, off the oldest charted town of Marazion, lies the majestic St Michael's Mount, one of Cornwall's most magical sights as you come up to Penzance. | |||||||||
