When
you arrive at The Riverside you will find a very warm welcome, your
beds made up with freshly laundered sheets, pretty flowers in the
rooms, fragrant toiletries in all the bathrooms, dinner being prepared.
It is time to start unwinding!
The Riverside is an appealing, whitewashed cottage
style house. The delightful rooms provide a level of comfort well
above that normally associated with holiday accommodation.
The sitting room looks over our terrace and the
village beyond. Here, you can relax in front of the open fire, watch
the television, dvd or a video, do a jigsaw or play one of our board
games.
On
a practical note, the house has a separate laundry room for your
use and the kitchen (although you wont have to see much of
it) is well equipped and there is a fridge/freezer specifically
for the use of guests so that you can store your own food for lunches
etc. If you are still in stand-by "work mode" there is
also a phone/fax (with an honesty box).

Bedroom
/ Cottage
In total there are 6 pretty double/twin* bedrooms
(+ two small bunk rooms and a single room). The Riverside property
comprises of two buildings. Four of the bedrooms (one of which has
a small single room off it) are in the main house and two are in
the Cottage above. It is the Cottage Rooms that have the small bunk
rooms off the main bedrooms which makes them a popular choice for
people with children.
Each bedroom has its own en-suite facilities, and
all are equipped with a radio, a hairdryer and a television.
Incidentally, with regard to young children, we do
have two listening devices and nappy compactors available. We also
have one travel cot (for which we do not supply bed linen) and a
z-bed to allow some flexibility of who sleeps where.
*Two of these rooms have 5 foot double beds, 1 is
a twin room and the other three rooms can be made up as 6
double or 2 x 3 single beds

Helford, the River and The Riverside Boats
Helford
is situated on the east side of the Lizard Peninsula - a gloriously
unspoilt and uncrowded part of Cornwall. As the UKs most southerly
location, and with the influence of the Gulf Stream, the weather
tends to be milder here than in the rest of Britain. The Lizard
Peninsulas beaches, coves, spectacular stretches of dramatic
coastline, enchanting harbours, thriving fishing communities and
picture book villages, all combine to make the area truly memorable
for everyone who visits.
The picturesque village of Helford is built around
a creek off the Helford River and enjoys restricted access to traffic,
ensuring that it remains peaceful all year round. It is small and
delightfully free from tourist shops, boasting only the real necessities
i.e. a good traditional pub (The Shipwrights Arms), a friendly shop
with a Post Office and the Sailing Club (which we recommend guests
join as temporary members do call them on 01326 231006).
The Helford River is spectacular and taking to its
waters is a magical experience. The Riverside boats are available
between April and the end of October (depending on the weather,
of course). We have a Cygnus 19 riverboat (+ KoKo the tender), which
can be utilised, not only for fishing, but also for exploring the
wonders of the river. Spend time discovering hidden creeks and beaches,
including the famous Frenchmans Creek (immortalised by Daphne
du Maurier), which is impossible to get to by road, accessible on
foot, but even easier by boat! Or if you moor at Durgan you can
walk up through the hamlet (owned by the National Trust) to Glendurgan
(with its intriguing maze) and the beautiful Trebah gardens (which
now boasts an excellent café and art gallery in addition
to the garden shop). Incidentally, the river is tidal.
