Activities

Wind SurfingWhen lazing on sundrenched beaches gets too much, get active and make the most of the region's contrasting terrain and elements. Both coasts offer a veritable waterworld of activities with excellent surfing, sailing, swimming, diving and land yachting. Local retailers and chandlers specialise in equipment and watersports wear, whilst local clubs and centres can offer lessons for both the novice and the expert to ensure that your chosen sport goes without a hitch.

But you don't have to get wet to get active. A huge range of family attractions are open all year round including craft workshops, galleries and museums and, of course, shopping in the bustling city and town centres of the region can easily become a full time occupation!

The rugged coastal landscape sets a challenge for even the most determined of rock climbers, and the South West Coastal Path makes the region a walker's paradise, with inland routes also now opening up as part of the Mineral Tramways network of trails.

Golf courses throughout the region reflect the changing nature of the landscape, from the windswept links of the north coast to the verdant manicured greens of the more southerly positions.

The beaches of Falmouth and South West Cornwall are simply among the finest in western Europe and, some would argue, the world. Standing on the cliffs overlooking any one of the many beaches within this region is to experience the very essence of Cornwall. There are wide open beaches and sand dunes where the distance stays out of reach; intimate, secluded beaches known only to a few locals; sparkling rockpools - the stuff of childhood memories; beaches where wet-suited surfers gather like seals above the breakers; shimmering sun-bleached beaches; accessible family beaches with ice cream and sandcastles; secret beaches approachable only by sea; and windswept winter beaches guaranteed to clear away any cobwebs ...
