This 17th century, thatched, detached, Grade II listed cottage a few fields back from the sea is a little gem. It is 200 yards from the 13th cent. pub at Crosstown in Morwenstow which serves excellent, locally sourced food and there is access over the fields to the coastal footpath from the front gate. The cottage has been completely transformed without losing any charm. As you would expect, there are some low door lintels (lowest 5'5"), thick uneven cob walls and exposed ceiling beams. There is central heating supplemented with built in fan heaters for instant heat for the cooler summer nights. The cottage is set in a simple country garden with flower beds and lawns and has table and chairs and a garden bench where you can relax and enjoy the rural surroundings. The cottage is small but we believe it to be perfectly formed!

From the garden, there is a small entrance hall for coats/boots and a smart ground floor bathroom with good shower over bath and washer-drier in cupboard. From the hall there is a door to the living room with TV/DVD, inglenook, original Delabole slate floor with rug and 6'1" beams also from the hall is the door to the fitted kitchen which is equipped with a slimline dishwasher, induction hob, electric oven and microwave, and is fitted with oak worktops, butler sink, window seats, drop-leaf dining table and English limestone floor. From the hall, steep stairs up to two bedrooms, both with floorboards and rugs - one is a romantic double bedroom with vaulted ceiling, a high king sized bed where oars have been used as ceiling beams, a small built in wardrobe with hanging space and drawers, the other is a pretty room again with a vaulted ceiling and having two single, wooden framed, antique beds, chest of drawers and a glimpse of the sea.

Things to do:

We are sure that you will enjoy the tranquility of this area and the wonderful flora and fauna that is so abundant all around you. There is a link to the coastal path right outside your gate, if you are feeling adventurous just turn immediately right following the line of the old tin store and follow the "Sunshine Alley" down the valley to the coastal path.......... if you prefer a slightly less overgrown start to your walk then turn left out of the cottage gate and up past The Bush Inn and follow the signs or your map to the coastal path.

Try to catch the beauty of the Tidna Valley early in the year. Call at the Bush Inn, or in summer the Vicarage Tea Rooms, see the Church of St Morwenna and St John the Baptist, the ancient Holy Well, Hawker's Hut ( the smallest NT property and no entrance fee!) and the Vicarage with its unique chimneys.

In the evening retreat to the cosy living room complete with flat screen digital tv with dvd, and a range of games, dvd's and books to keep everyone happy. ...and once you are here, all of this without getting into your car!
