Mawgan Porth

Mawgan Porth is a popular family beach on Cornwall's north coast, known for its broad golden sands, rock pools, caves and excellent surfing conditions. The beach is backed by a small selection of cafés, restaurants, shops and other facilities, making it an appealing destination for both day trips and longer stays.

A woodland route connects the area around Sun Haven Valley with Mawgan Porth beach, making it possible to reach the coast on foot rather than relying on the car.

Exploring North Cornwall

The location provides a convenient base for discovering some of North Cornwall's most popular coastal attractions. Watergate Bay and Newquay are within easy reach, while the South West Coast Path provides spectacular walking along the cliffs and coastline.

Watergate Bay and Porth are just along the coast from Mawgan Porth and offer further opportunities to enjoy the dramatic North Cornwall coastline. Watergate Bay is particularly popular for surfing, walking and beachside dining, while the quieter Porth beach provides a sheltered alternative for families. The coastal path between the beaches offers spectacular views across the Atlantic and is a rewarding way to explore the coastline on foot.

Newquay is only a short drive from Mawgan Porth and is one of Cornwall's best-known seaside towns. Famous for its excellent surfing beaches, Newquay also has a wide choice of cafés, restaurants, shops and family attractions. Fistral Beach is internationally recognised as a surfing destination, while Towan, Great Western and Porth beaches provide a variety of settings for swimming, relaxing and enjoying the coast.

Bedruthan Steps and the surrounding coastline provide some of the most dramatic scenery in this part of Cornwall. The towering sea stacks, cliffs and secluded coves make this stretch of the coast particularly popular with walkers and photographers. Inland, the surrounding countryside has a quieter character, with country lanes, farms and villages providing a contrast to the busy beaches during the summer months.

Padstow, Rock and the Camel Estuary lie further north and make an excellent day trip from Mawgan Porth. Padstow is well known for its picturesque harbour, restaurants, independent shops and fishing heritage, while Rock on the opposite side of the Camel Estuary is noted for its sandy beaches, sailing and water sports. The Camel Trail, which follows a disused railway line between Padstow and Bodmin, provides an enjoyable way to explore the countryside by bicycle or on foot.

Further afield, visitors can explore destinations including The camel Estuary, Polzeath, Padstow and Port Isaac, making this part of Cornwall particularly attractive to visitors looking for beaches, surfing, coastal walks and traditional Cornish villages.
