Quirky Holidays, Launceston, Cornwall
We set out about twelve
months ago with a redundant plant nursery, a beautiful rural location
in Cornwall, a passion for recycling and renovating, and a personal need
to do something different that would give us real satisfaction and enjoyment
to others.
We have a number of objectives:
- To provide a refreshing antidote to todays rush rush, money, money
lifestyle.
- To combine modern day comforts/luxury like a hot shower and flushing
toilet, with the nostalgic, childhood memories of yesteryear.
- To give excellent value for money, so that the break is less an extravagance,
more an essential 'us' time.
- To make our guests feel totally welcome and at home - while at the
same time being private and secluded.
- To please, and to provide the very best short break.

Duke is a rather handsome old wagon from the 1940's.
He sits proudly on his own patch of more than one fifth of an acre, enjoying
views over the beautiful Cornish countryside. In his previous life, Duke
was home to a family of travelling showmen.

The wagon accommodation comprises of:-
Living area with toffee coloured french enamel woodburner
(specifically designed for toasting toes after a long ramble across Dartmoor).
Comfortable leather tub chairs for two, original chest of drawers and
writing bureau with dainty china cabinet over, torch, lighter and matches,
playing cards, local information.
Fully equipped kitchen area with full size gas cooker
and fridge. Ample tea towels, dishcloth, scourer, bin liners and various
cleaning materials all provided. There should be everything you need,
down to a corkscrew! A wicker hamper is available for picnics, along with
a rug and various bits and bobs inside.
Bedroom with a small double bed (4' x 5'9") -
it's cosy and snuggly. Duvet and pillows provided. Spare blanket in overhead
locker. Wardrobe, underbed drawers, wall cupboard, chest of drawers. Pitch
pine flooring throughout the waggon. Lovely for bare feet and easy to
clean!
Located a few steps away from the wagon is it's own
private and detached bathroom containing a large shower, w.c. and basin.
soap and loo roll provided. Hot water and electric is included. Logs for
the woodburner - first basket free, thereafter £5 per basket. Bedding
is provided - but please bring your own towels.

Maiden is our 1940's GWR Ale Wagon. Once used to ferry
goods back and forth on Britain's railways - helping, in her own small
way to keep the wheels of commerce turning. She has been lovingly sanded,
scraped wire brushed, painted and brought gently into our time, to share
with us a taste of history, giving us a close up glimpse of her beautifully
solid character and personality.
Converted, now, into a romantic and quirky garden bedroom
- she comes complete with original cast iron double bedstead, comfy modern
mattress and sturdy oak furniture.

Maiden has her own south facing cottage in the same
grounds of approx 1/6 acre, (a veritable sun trap) housing a large open
plan kitchen and lounge - with patio doors, and bathroom with large shower,
toilet and wash basin.
The garden is deliberately open - we were after a wild
and woolly effect- a little grass, a lot of slate chippings, some bark,
and plenty of nordman spruce at the far end (the pigeons seem to like
it in the big conifer at the back of the rockery!). We have sited a campfire
for your pleasure - whether it be a sausage on a stick, toasted marshmallows,
or simply a glass of wine or mug of cocoa by firelight.

Woodcutters Barn is a beautiful, detached, spacious
and individual non-smoker's holiday cottage. Situated in a peaceful rural
location, the barn is laid out all on one level and approached by a gentle
wooden ramp. Comprising two large bedrooms, two bathrooms and a very spacious
open plan living room. Perfect for a romantic escape - with the moors,
beaches and country market towns all within easy driving.

On arrival, you will find a welcome basket
of goodies, and the woodburner will be laid and ready to light.
The open plan living room, with the woodburner
for cooler evenings is of a generous size, comfortably holding two contemporary
toffee apple coloured leather sofas and a large striking oak dresser.
Both bedrooms are very airy and comfortable:
each with their own bath or shower room, the double having french doors
out to a small deck overlooking the large enclosed private garden.
Ideally located for both coasts and just
under a mile (a nice walk of an evening) from one of the area's most renowned
pub restaurants, Woodcutters Barn is ideal for an enjoyable holiday.
