Portreath and the surrounding area offer one of the most spectacular beauty spots in the county. It nestles in a valley between high cliffs, which open out to form a bay with a lovely, sandy, family beach and picturesque harbour. Although Portreath is just a village, all holiday needs are catered for - with a range of shops, pubs, cafesand post office.

Portreath is steeped in history and the 18th Century harbour served the local copper and tin mines, via the 8 mile Portreath Tramway, which has been restored and can be walked or cycled today.

Portreath is on the North Coast Footpath, with towering cliffs and secluded coves, with names such as Hells Mouth, Deadman's Cove, Smuggler's Cove, Ralph's Cupboard - a reminder of days of smuggling and wrecking.

Portreath is a haven for surfers, walkers, nature lovers and cyclists. In addition to board and wet suit hire in the village, nearby are cycle hire facilities with scenic traffic-free trails to the quays at Devoran on the south coast. Tehidy Country Park and Tehidy Golf Course are approx. 1 mile away and Stithians Lake with its angling and watersports centre is approx. 7 miles. Carn Brea Leisure Centre, approx. 2½ miles away, provides facilities for swimming, tennis, fitness, squash, badminton etc. Horse riding and pony trekking, even karting and tank driving are available locally. There is plenty to visit for all interests from the Eden Project, Minack Theatre, country houses, castles, and tin mines to cider farms, vineyards, beekeepers and cheesemakers.
