Self catering Holiday Cottage Lizard Peninsula A 200
years old beamed cottage Palm Cottage sleeping 4 (+ 2 children)
Originally two cottages converted into one, the exterior of our cottage belies the spaciousness of its interior. A Cornish Palm tree stands in the front garden. SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION An elegant oak door opens to an entrance porch, from which a further door leads into the large, beamed living room complete with coffin hatches! Very cosy, with thick cob walls, there is a substantial stone fireplace with an open grate at one end of the room, whilst at the opposite end is a dining area and an attractive deep inglenook replaces what was formerly the other hearth. Stairs leave off the living room to a landing and three bedrooms, one double and two twin-bedded which are attractively located on two levels. The satellite dishes at Goonhilly can be seen from the rear bedroom. A couple of gentle steps from the living room lead to the hall off which is the ample, well equipped and modern kitchen overlooking the garden. Opposite the kitchen is the bathroom with bath and shower, WC and wash-basin. At the end of the hall, an attractive stable-door opens to a stone patio which gently slopes to a safe and charming L-shaped lawned garden with shrubs and mature apple trees. The garden overlooks open fields providing a peaceful setting where one can relax and enjoy alfresco meals from the brick-built barbecue. Amenities include an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, automatic washing machine, dishwasher, TV and DVD player, night-storage heaters, cot, duvets, bed linen and outdoor garden furniture. Electricity is included in the cost of the Rental. Parking is on the gravel area at the end of the private drive to the rear of the cottage or in the well-lit garage if preferred. We prefer to have non smokers. The Lizard Peninsula Newtown-St. Martin is a quaint, unspoilt little village embracing an authentic pub and nearby shop, where one can purchase everyday items including logs and coal, as well as locally home-made pasties. The village is just off the centre of the Lizard Peninsula, Britain's most southern promontory. Stunningly beautiful at any time of the year, the peninsula is quite unique. Almost surrounded by the sea, it stands alone, in a very real sense, from the rest of the county. It is not a place to drive through but a journey's end, a destination. The air is crisp, clear and unpolluted by industry and boasts one of the warmest climates in UK Three miles from the cottage is the picturesque village of Helford with its sailing club and ferry across the river. The ancient market town of Helston, famous for its annual Floral Dance, is six miles away and within a twenty minutes drive are the many attractive beaches, coves and fishing villages of the peninsula. Boats can be hired from nearby St. Anthony both for exploring the river and for fishing. It is also a splendid area for walking, both inland and following the South West Coastal Path which has been designated by the National Trust as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. At Mullion, five miles away,
there is an There are numerous places to visit including Kynance Cove for its safe beach and breathtaking views, the working lighthouse at Lizard Point, the seal sanctuary at Gweek, the BT satellite station at Goonhilly and many National Trust properties. The Minack Open-Air Theatre near Lands End, the Tate Modern at St. lves, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan both near St Austell, are also well worth the journey. The area is known not only for its cream teas and home-made pasties, but also for the locally caught fresh fish, crabs and lobsters. There are several nearby pubs and restaurants which serve excellent food in delightful surroundings. The Lizard Peninsula is a secret worth sharing!
