Nestling on the River Camel Estuary, this unspoilt harbour town has a charm all of its own. Excellent restaurants, including Rick Steins, many specialising in locally caught fish and seafood are part and parcel of the magic that is Padstow. Watersports of every kind are to be found, including surfing, sailing, windsurfing and water-skiing - all with expert tuition. Fishing boats leave the quay daily offering a variety of trips. Two excellent golf courses hug the coastline with facilities for both the novice and the experienced golfer. The nine glorious beaches, magnificent coastal and estuary scenery, quiet country lanes, walking or cycling on the Camel Trail to Wadebridge or inland to Bodmin, are proof that Padstow truly has something for everyone. Padstow is an ideal place to base yourself for touring Cornwall's rugged coastline, exquisite small harbours and fishing villages. Port Isaac and Tintagel are only a short drive away, as is Newquay with its sandy surfing beaches. On the south coast, the historic ports of Falmouth (with its newly opened National Maritime Museum), and Fowey are not far away. St. Ives (including the Tate Gallery), Penzance and Lands End are all within easy reach, as are day trips to the Isles of Scilly. The world famous Eden Project is only 16 miles away. There are a wide variety of activities for those who wish for something a little more energetic, or you can just sit back and relax, taking in the scenic beauty and tranquillity of the area. Short Breaks/Off season getaways It is often the best time to experience Cornwall during the early and later parts of the year when the children are back at school and the roads are relatively traffic free. The winding lanes and coastal paths are alive with wild flowers and birds, the historic houses and gardens are looking there best after a winters rest. The autumn sunsets and breezes can be bracing and a delight for the photographer. Bird watchers can enjoy the visiting birds to our estuaries at anytime of year. If you would like details of our short breaks contact us now. |
