Corlink – Carnon Vale Area Press Release Dec 2009

Changes to Services from 4 January 2010

Why have things changed?
Due to the current operator no longer wishing to continue operating the Corlink service in this area, Cornwall Council has had to seek tenders from interested operators to ensure the continued operation of the service.

What changes will there be?
A new operator
OTS is a local bus operator based in the Falmouth area who has many years experience in operating services in Cornwall.
They will be using vehicles from their current fleet which many of you will be familiar with. All vehicles will carry a sign with the Corlink logo when operating the Corlink service.

A new call centre
The current Corlink call centre will be open to take bookings for journeys up until Saturday 2 January but will not be able to take bookings for this area for journeys to be made from Monday 4 January 2010.
The new call centre, also run by OTS, will be open for bookings from Saturday 2 January for journeys required from 4 January. The number to call for booking a journey is 01326 259794. Please do not use this number before 2 January.

The opening times are:
Mondays to Fridays from 0900 to 1700
Saturdays from 1000 to 1600
Sundays and Bank Holidays Closed

The minimum notice required for booking a journey is 2 hours before the intended time of travel, the maximum ahead you can book is 7 days.

The Corlink service
The new service will serve most of the current area although a small section on the edge of it, which received little or no bookings, will no longer be served thus ensuring more availability for the vehicle in the more heavily used areas.
Due to low usage bookings will no longer be taken for journeys commencing before 0800 and after 1800, however there will be additional service availability around lunch times as the current break in service has been removed.

Times of operation
Mondays to Saturdays 0800 to 1800
Sundays and Bank Holidays No service

Fares
Fares on Corlink have remained static for a number of years and have slipped below those charged on regular bus services covering similar distances. From 4 January there will be an increase in fares to adjust the scales to reflect the special demand responsive element which allows customers more freedom to choose the travel times and destinations suitable to them.

Currently concessionary card holders enjoy free travel on Corlink in the Carnon Vale area. Under the Travel Concessions (Eligible Services) (Amendment) Order 2009 services where more than half of the seats can be pre-booked have now been excluded from the travel concession scheme, meaning Corlink is no longer required to accept concessionary passes. Cornwall Council has decided however that concession cards will still be accepted on Corlink services in the area with eligible passengers being entitled to travel at half fare.

Existing local bus services and the proposed revised OTS bus services in the Carnon Vale area will still operate the current concession scheme.

Falmouth Town Shuttle Bus

With superb foresight, Falmouth Town Council have researched and commissioned a new Minibus service for vistiors and residents alike to use and enjoy.

The Falmouth Town Shuttle Bus links the Car Parks and Falmouth’s Town Station on the eastern edge of the town with the main streets and attractions.

Operating from Monday to Saturday the Minibus runs every 20 minutres linking the Quarry Car Park (entrance) with The Moor (for Town Hall, Library, Art Gallery and Piazza with Packet Memorial).

From the Moor, it runs via the Prince of Wales Pier (for St. Nazaire memorial and Ferry services to Flushing and St. Mawes) and then through the main street, (a Traffic Order prohibits through traffic and a rising Bollard helps prevent unauthorised traffic – the Bollard is a lovely tourist wonder in it’s own right !) stopping at The Grapes Inn (for Gasworks Car Park) and Church Corner for King Charles Parish Church before travelling to Grove Place for The National Maritime Museum.

We then travel to the Dell Car Park which is co-sited with Falmouth Town BR Station (linking with incoming Trains at 12 minutes past the hour). Next, the service travels via Grovehill and Woodlane and stops near the University College, Falmouth Campus entrance. Continuing via stops on Albany Road and Killigrew Street the last stop is outside Argos (for Argos, Iceland and National Express and visiting Tour Coaches) at Berkeley Vale, before returning up Quarry Hill to The Quarry Car Park (entrance).

Concession Card Holders travel free, and the good news is that the fare is £1 - a flat rate with “Hop On ~ Hop Off” as often as you like - so visitors can ride around the whole route before deciding where to explore on foot, and locals can pop down to the shops from home or convenient out of town parking spots.

Helping to reduce traffic through Falmouth’s sensitive main street, providing a friendly and helpful service for passengers from near and far - all in a day’s work for the team running the Falmouth Town Shuttle Bus.

We will be pleased to receive your comments or suggestions either on-board or via the Falmouth Town Manager.
