Accommodation
This Georgian mansion
has been tastefully converted to offer 6 individual self catering holiday
apartments, sleeping 2-8.
Our apartments have one,
two or three bedrooms, with a lounge, kitchen and bathroom with
shower. The fully equipped kitchens are all electric with Cooker, Fridge/Freezer
and Microwave. There are Colour Televisions, mostly wide screen, Freeview
boxes, Video Recorders, DVD players and Stereos in each apartment. We
have a DVD loan library to enhance your enjoyment for evenings in. A shared
laundry is available if needed.
Our large and beautifully
secluded gardens are a delight and also benefit from a heated,
open air swimming pool, perfect for cooling off after time spent enjoying
the sunshine on the south terrace. We provide areas where children (of
all ages) can play, while those of a more restful nature can relax and
watch the sunshine push the shadows around. The children's playground
provides simple pleasures for our younger visitors. You are welcome to
use the BBQ on warm summer days.
Our location on the edge of the quiet rural village of
Lanreath by Looe is idyllic. Let the stunning countryside views astound
you; hear only birdsong by day and the owls at night. We offer a true
retreat from the pressure of modern living and are only 6 miles from the
picturesque fishing villages of Looe and Polperro. We are close to pretty
beaches, the southwest coast path with its fabulous coastal views and
the Eden Project.
Our gardens are beautiful and a particular feature; we
are proud to have been runner up in the Commercial garden section of Caradon
in Bloom 2006.
Our accommodation is ideal for couples, families or groups
of friends. Our location is ideal for short breaks in the quieter months
and longer summer holidays.
Our Apartments:
Caerhays - Caerhays
is a spacious comfortable one-bedroom apartment with a double bedroom,
benefiting from oil fired central heating. There is a kitchen, bathroom
with shower over the bath and a lounge that looks out onto the east garden
and catches the morning sun. The apartment is on the ground floor. It
has a separate entrance from the courtyard car park (up two steps) and
has immediate access to the gardens.
Daymer - Daymer
is a marvellous one or two bedroom apartment, accessed off the first floor
landing. It has a double bedroom and an optional bedroom with twin singles.
The lounge and bedrooms benefit from superb views over the south garden,
swimming pool, village and valley beyond. The double bedroom is dual aspect
with a second window facing west, catching the evening sunset. The apartment
was formed from what was the Ladies Bedroom and what might have been a
Bathroom or a Receiving Room (a Boudoir). The kitchen and bathroom fill
the space previously occupied by the very grand, central staircase.
Epphaven - Epphaven
is reached from the first floor landing and has two spacious bedrooms;
one double and one with twin singles that can accommodate an extra two
single beds. The bathroom, living room and double bedroom all have windows
overlooking the western part of the garden with its beautiful views to
the valley beyond. The apartment catches the afternoon and early evening
sun, with the living room overlooking the garden through the leaves of
a magnificent Wisteria that in most years blooms extravagantly and fills
the room with its scent through late May and early June. The apartment
is formed from what were originally the children's Nursery and their bedrooms.
Epphaven as a three bedroom apartment combines the normal 2 bedroom apartment
as described above, with Gorran. You will thus enjoy the extra benefits
of two bathrooms, lounges and a spare kitchen. The two apartments are
joined through the twin bedroom in Epphaven and the double bedroom in
Gorran.
Fowey - Fowey
is a large apartment off the first floor landing. It has the opportunity
of a third bedroom with twin beds, making it large enough for at least
six people. The double and twin bedroom have windows overlooking the attractive
east garden and catch the morning sun. The living room is dual aspect,
looking across the east lawn and with outstanding views over the south
terrace to the village and valley beyond. The third bedroom also has this
southern view. The apartment is formed from what was the Master's Bedroom
(the current Living Room) and two Guest Rooms (one of which was almost
certainly used by William Makepeace Thackeray - the writer and satirist
who wrote Vanity Fair.
Gorran - Gorran
is a one bedroom apartment off the first floor landing and a strong favourite
with many regular guests. The lounge has a lovely aspect across the east
garden, and is beautiful in the early morning sunshine. The apartment
is formed from a Guest bedroom (the Living Room) and the Nanny's bedroom
(the current bedroom).
Heligan - Heligan
is a large two-bedroom apartment on the second floor. It is full of character
and enjoys extensive views to the south and west over the valley and toward
the coast. An extra 14 steps to climb - but on a clear day you can see
for miles! The apartment has one double bedroom and one bedroom with twin
beds. There is also a pull-out single bed in the living room. Although
extended in modern times the apartment was always the domain of the housekeeper
- who would have enjoyed the status that came from living in the main
house; reinforcing her position of superiority over the other staff living
above the Coach House and Stables.
Local Area:
Lanreath by Looe is a delightful place to stay. The village
is picturesque and tranquil with a population of only a few hundred. The
pretty church - originally constructed during Norman times, is well worth
a visit. Our village pub The Punchbowl Inn is within walking distance
as is our community run village shop and post office. We are ideally situated
to explore Cornwall's unspoilt coast and countryside, both with stunning
views, her beautiful gardens, heritage, country houses and attractions.
There is something here for everyone and new discoveries round every corner.
The South Cornish resorts of Looe and Polperro - everyone's
vision of a timeless fishing village - are just six miles away, and many
other pretty coves and beaches are within easy reach - rock pools abound.
The waterside town of Fowey, a regular spot for sailing, is only 10 minutes
drive and a short ferry trip across the river on the Boddinick car ferry.
Atmospheric Bodmin Moor, with its ancient stone circles, reminds us of
past civilisations. We are located close to historic houses, including
Anthony House with beautiful grounds landscaped by Repton, Mount Edgcumbe
and Cotehele. Our heritage is preserved in such National Trust jewels
as Lanhydrock.
THE
EDEN PROJECT is perhaps our most famous attraction and just 25
minutes drive away. A gigantic global garden designed to tell the fascinating
story of man's relationship with, and dependence upon, plants. Set in
a breathtaking 35-acre crater overlooking St Austell Bay, the awesome
biomes are the world's largest greenhouses. A
series of seasonal themes ensures year round interest and you can even
go skating from October to February. Other famous Cornish Gardens are
easily reached, including the delightful Lost
Gardens of Heligan.
There are opportunities to try new skills with such water
sports as sailing, surfing and canoeing. It is a delight to explore the
countryside by foot, cycle or horseback.
