Quality Bed and Breakfast holidays in Boscastle, CornwallThe Old Rectory offers quality Bed & Breakfast in a historic house. Situated near Boscastle on the beautiful North Cornish Coast. The house is surrounded by 3 acres of mature south facing gardens including a Victorian walled garden. Thomas Hardy stayed here as a young architect and met and fell in love with Emma Lavinia Gifford. The romance led to the novel "A pair of Blue Eyes", and to some of his finest poetry.

The Old Rectory is a family home and we are the fifth generation to have lived here. The house has been recently updated and is decorated in period style. It is centrally heated throughout.

Come and stay as our guests and enjoy a brush with history.

The walled garden supplies ample fresh fruit and vegetables in season, as well as free range eggs. Breakfast is served in the Entrance Hall and consists of a wide range of Cornish produce including our home made marmalade and preserves.

Guests are welcome to use their own sitting room where a fire is lit on chilly evenings.

The Garden

Guests are very welcome to explore and enjoy our beautiful mature south facing garden. We believe that many of the older trees and shrubs were planted by Rev. Manning who was the first Rector to live here. The grounds extend to 3 acres and contain a wide variety of plants.

The woodland garden has magnificent rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias under planted with meconopsis and primulas. Further up the slope stroll along the herbaceous border to Hardy's Seat- a place as peaceful today as when Thomas and Emma sat here over 100 years ago. Behind the high stone wall travel back in time to the walled kitchen garden and see where we tend our freshly grown produce. We serve fruit from the garden whenever possible and our free range hens produce the freshest eggs.

The holiday season in Cornwall is extended because of the mild climate, spring comes early bringing an abundance of colour to the hedgerows and coastal paths, the gardens of the stately homes produce a fine display. The autumn sunsets and the ever changing scenes along the coast and valley walks are a delight to walkers enjoying a relaxing break away.

Travelling by road to Cornwall is much easier with the A30 dual carriageway stretching through the middle of the county, it is as little as four hours drive from London and the Midlands even less from Bristol. If you would like details of our short breaks and availability please contact us now!

We are a non-smoking establishment and regrettably we are unable to take pets into the house. One well behaved dog in the Stable. Please notifiy us if you intend to bring a dog when booking.

Children over 12 years old welcome.
