Leave your hectic city life behind and come
and stay on our idyllic dairy farm surrounded by rolling hills and ancient
woodlands. Take a short leisurely walk along the farm's private nature
trail and through beautiful National Trust woods to the Helford River,
including Tremayne Quay or Frenchmans Creek. During the 18th century the area was notorious
for smuggling and historians believe that there was a tunnel running from
Mudgeon down to Frenchmans Creek where Daphne du Maurier based her famous
novel. While renovating the farm house bales of tattered silk were found under the floorboards linking Mudgeon with smuggling. Mudgeon Farm is in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty on the spectacular Lizard Peninsula, renowned for its magnificent scenery, rugged coastline, pretty fishing coves, numerous sandy beaches including Kennack Sands and Coverack are only a few minutes drive away. Near by are attractions to suit all tastes including Flambards Theme Park, National Trust properties and gardens, The Tate Gallery St Ives, Lands End, The Eden Project and Goonhilly Earth Station to name but a few. We are child friendly with an extensive play area including slides and a tree house (pictured below). There is a games room with table tennis and pool where the daily milking can be viewed. There are three horses on the farm and at most times of the year baby calves can be seen. Self catering Cottage Mudgeon, an ancient Manor House was mentioned in the Doomsday book, is Grade II listed and the cottage is believed to date from the early 17th Century. The large kitchen diner is equipped to a high standard including a microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/drier and dishwasher.
Adjoining the kitchen is the large sitting room with the original inglenook fireplace complete with the old bread ovens. Now it has a wood-burning stove for cosy nights by the fire. There are DVD and video players and both rooms have large night storage heaters. A pine staircase leads to four spacious bedrooms with co-ordinating duvets bed drapes and curtains.
Guests have their own large orchard garden and a walled private courtyard with picnic bench. There is a large secluded patio area with a gas barbeque where guests can relax with a glass of wine. Bed linen and towels are included in the weekly rate. There is parking for three cars and a boat. |
