Tregony is a charming village set in the midst of rolling
countryside at the top of the Roseland Peninsula. Great Gargus is a farm
about one and a half miles outside Tregony.
There has been a farm here since the middle ages, and the
name Great Gargus is believed to hail from these times. Great Gargus lies
betwixt two big country estates, Caerhayes castle, (by the beach) and
Trewithen (both have wonderful gardens open to the public) - and its said
that the name means 'free farm' as it was unusually not tied to either
estates, which most other houses around were at that time. So, in medieval
times Great Gargus provided a haven for the entrepreneur farmer; today
it is a haven for those seeking a rest and time to play (and a sanctuary
for pheasants escaping the country shoots) ...
Tregony has a post office, general stores, art gallery,
pub and hairdressers. Nearby farm shops include Humphreys (less than 2
mins by car) and Lobbs Farm Shop at Heligan ( about 5 mins by car). Being
surrounded by farms has the great benefit of lots of fresh local produce
and as well as a choice of farm shops nearby, there are regular farmers
markets in Truro.
Roseland is a truly beautiful
part of Cornwall, largely unspoilt and packed full of wonderful beaches,
you really are spoilt for choice. Great for beaches, sailing, walks, pubs....
if that appeals then Moo Barn is for you!
