NORTH CORNWALL
Wadebridge, (just a short riverside walk
away) is the ideal location for exploring North Cornwall. Located
on the River Camel, Wadebridge has good road access to the villages
on the North Cornwall coast, as well as, Newquay, Truro and the
rest of Cornwall.
Leading away from Wadebridge towards Padstow and
the sea is the Camel Estuary - famous for its long stretches
of sandy beaches and gentle shoreline. The Camel Estuary, is
a major attraction on the North Cornish coast. The tidal waters
stretch from the mouth of the estuary some five miles south towards
Wadebridge -providing a calm, sheltered expanse of water protected
from the Atlantic ocean by Stepper Point, Pentire point and the
sand bar at the mouth of the estuary, creating ideal conditions
for all varieties of water sports.
Visitors can hire bicycles from Wadebridge
and cycle along the level Camel Trail cycle route to Padstow
(an 11 mile round trip - the more adventurous can chose to continue
on past towards Bodmin). The journey takes you along the shoreline
of the estuary, providing you with a wealth of opportunities to
stop and watch the local wildlife (badgers, rabbits, herons, cattle
egrets, swans and wading birds of all types).
The trip is an easy introduction to the pleasures
of cycling, with many seats along the route to stop and admire the
view. Pleasure, fishing and bird watching trips are available from
nearby Rock and Padstow.
