Lavethan, listed in the Domesday Book and set in its own secret valley, is now a beautiful and comfortable family house in 30 acres of park like fields and gardens sloping to a small river.

Catherine and Christopher Hartley invite their guests to experience the serenity of the estate and explore its many historic features.

Lavethan is ideally placed to explore Cornwall and its magic: its history and legends, King Arthur and Tintagel; Picturesque fishing villages of Boscastle, Port Isaac and Fowey.

For the more energetic there is sailing, surfing and swimming on the safe sandy beaches. Cycling on the Camel Trail and Walking on the wild Bodmin Moor as featured in Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn.

The Golfer is spoilt for choice with 8 courses within easy reach, the area also offers horse riding, sea fishing, river and lake fishing.

Blisland, one of Cornwall's most picturesque villages is in a designated area of outstanding beauty. The village green is surrounded by Granite Cottages, The village Inn, Post office shop and Church.

The Medieval church of St. Protus and St. Hyacinth with its beautifully restored Wood Carved Rood Screen, which was admired and written about by Sir John Betjeman, is well worth a visit. Inside the church there are memorials to previous owners of Lavethan.

Blisland is tucked away just off the moor, if chanced upon stay and linger. If not seek it out. There are many walks and country lanes to cycle.

Spring and Autumn at Lavethan is for those lovers of Cornwall who appreciate the colourful landscapes, sunsets and wildlife at a time when the roads are relatively traffic free and access to all parts of the county is easy. The National Trust properties and gardens in the spring are looking their best after the winters break.

From the A30 follow the signs for Blisland. Keep to the left round the village green then take the Merry Meeting & St. Maybyn Lane, after ¼ mile the Driveway to Lavethan is on the left.
