Jessamine is a self-contained 18 year old flat extended
behind one of the old houses in Breakwater Road, which runs beside the
canal to the sea lock and the breakwater beyond.
It is comfortably furnished and accommodation comprises
lounge with easy chairs, dining
table, TV, Freesat, video, DVD player and 'real coal' gas fire; kitchen
with electric oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, washer/drier, fridge, microwave,
and ample cupboard space; conservatory
with easy chairs with door to garden
and small private patio; main bedroom
with king-size bed, wardrobe recess, dressing table and bedside units;
compact second bedroom with single
bed (which may be converted to a double bed or twin beds), two built-in
storage cupboards and airing cupboard; and bathroom
with toilet, washbasin, and bath with electric shower. It is centrally
heated throughout.
There is private car parking from an access lane at the
rear with a reasonably level path to the garden but steep outside steps
to Breakwater Road at the front. Jessamine is not suitable for pets, and
visitors are requested not to smoke. Gas for heating and hot water and
electricity are included. Bedlinen is provided.
From Jessamine, the steps
to Breakwater Road make for easy access over the lock gates to Summerleaze
beach with its wide stretch of sand and the open-air sea swimming
pool beyond. The town centre is also within easy walking distance.
In the other direction along Breakwater Road are the Falcon
Hotel and Brendon Arms (both serving food) and over the bridge the Post
Office/General Stores and the Brasserie, which serves light meals and
is particularly suitable for children.
There are walks direct from Jessamine over Efford Down
and the cliff path to Widemouth Bay
and back down the canal towpath; along the beach at low tide to Northcote
Mouth and back along the cliff path over Maer
Down to Crooklets Beach
and the town; or through the Nature Reserve or canal tow path to Marhamchurch.
A short (and in breezy weather exhilarating) walk to the end of the breakwater
never fails to provide outstanding and ever-differing views at all states
of tide.
All forms of sport are well catered for. In addition to
sea bathing and surfing, there is fishing in the canal (permit required)
and in the sea. Tennis courts, squash courts and bowling green are nearby,
as is the crazy golf and putting green. The Leisure Centre and indoor
swimming pool are a short distance by car, and also the Bude & North Cornwall,
Ivyleaf and Holsworthy golf courses.
Bude is an ideal centre for exploring other parts of Devon
and Cornwall by car - Hartland, Clovelly and Exmoor to the east and
Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and Bodmin
Moor to the west. There are many National Trust and other houses
and gardens in the area, as well as RHS
Rosemoor and the Eden Project.
Jessamine provides excellent amenities for a family seaside
holiday with sandy beach, surfing schools and many other facilities for
children.
Out of peak season it is perfect for a quiet holiday with
varied activities available.
