The Lizard Peninsula is officially designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty and provides an ideal base from which to walk, tour, explore or visit the nearby towns of Helston and Falmouth. Truro, Penzance, St Michael's Mount and Land's End are within easy driving distance from the cottage and boats can be hired nearby to explore the beautiful creeks of Du Maurier's beloved Helford River. Approached via a bridleway that connects with the Cornish coastal path, this lovely old 18th century cottage offers guests all the benefits of modern living whilst enjoying its quiet and peaceful rural seclusion. Sleeping accommodation consists of two dedicated bedrooms with one having a double bed, while the other has a double bed, plus a single bed and cot. Heating is controllable and can be timed in all bedrooms; this makes the cottage ideal for families. There is also an additional upstairs bed-sitting room, having sea and panoramic landscape views, which is equipped with a second T.V., video library and superior 4' 6'' double sofa bed. The large comfortable downstairs lounge opens directly onto the garden and offers background storage/convection heat and the choice of lighting the open log fire or the multi fuel stove in the inglenook fireplace. CD player, DVD, TV with Freeview along with books and children's games chest are provided for cosy evening entertainment. In the farmhouse kitchen/diner, fully equipped with all the modern essentials such as cooker, microwave and dishwasher, meals can be taken whilst enjoying some spectacular sunsets across the fields towards Goonhilly Downs. A well stocked collection of utensils, toaster, food mixer, cafetiere, wok and basic herbs/spices is provided, but the greatest joy must be to warm your toes by the welcoming Rayburn that is on most of the year! Outside, the cottage garden is divided into 'rooms', providing protection as well as stunning views across the surrounding countryside. A barbecue, garden furniture and a clothesline, stored in the old 'Privy' are all available. For those requiring peace and tranquility - Higher Roskorwell Cottage is the perfect place to stay. |
