Headlands Hotel is well known throughout Cornwall for its unrivalled position, overlooking the tiny cove of Port Gaverne. Set in its own extensive grounds with direct access to the cliffs and coastal footpath, the hotel offers peace and tranquillity yet is just a short walk from the historic fishing village of Port Isaac.

The nearby historic village of Port Isaac is a traditional Cornish fishing village, with steep, narrow streets and a sheltered harbour. Within easy reach are Tintagel, site of King Arthur's legendary castle and Padstow, famous throughout the world for its seafood.

The hotel bar and lounge have spectacular sea views across the bay to Port Isaac. The well-stocked bar is an ideal place to sit and watch the sun go down. The fishing boats will be returning to Port Isaac with the day's catch and, if you are lucky, there may be a school of dolphins to provide the evening's entertainment. The lounge is a comfortable spot to sit and relax. There are views over the cliffs as far as Tintagel and the ruins of King Arthur's legendary castle, across the bay to Port Isaac and down to the hamlet and cove of Port Gaverne. In winter there is an open log fire to welcome you.

Headlands has extensive grounds, some of which is formal gardens and some left wild for nature lovers. The gardens are a lovely place to spend a quiet summer's day, perhaps enjoying lunch on the lawn. There is direct access to the cliffs and Port Gaverne's small sheltered beach, which is very safe for bathing and is rarely crowded even in the height of summer.

The coastal footpath passes through the hotel grounds, making it the perfect base for walkers wishing to explore the dramatic beauty of the North Cornwall coast. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.

At Headlands we have always taken pride in our restaurant, and in 1997 we were awarded an AA rosette for our cuisine.

Our policy is to serve good food at realistic prices, which we achieve by using fresh local produce in season. In particular, we specialise in local fish and seafood including Port Isaac crabs and lobster. We always include vegetarian options on our menus and are pleased to cater for any special diets. As all our dishes are freshly prepared to order, we can serve them in a plainer style without sauces if preferred.

To complement the food, we have an extensive list of personally chosen wines from around the world and a full range of drinks from the bar.

The restaurant itself is spacious and comfortable. We believe that dinner should not be rushed and you are welcome to occupy the table all evening if you wish. Alternatively, we should be pleased to serve your after dinner coffee in either the bar or lounge.

The restaurant is open to non-residents and availble for private functions, weddings and parties.

Short Breaks at the Headlands Hotel, with its friendly and efficient service, comfortable accommodation and exceptional food provides a perfect setting for a relaxing short-break or memorable holiday. Half-board or Bed & Breakfast (B&B) terms are available.

With its mild climate, golf is popular throughout the year in Cornwall. There are five golf courses within ten miles of Headlands and golf holidays and golf tuition can be arranged. Th.e National Trust Houses and Gardens are particularly colourful in the spring and the world acclaimed Eden Project is open at anytime of the year.

Travelling by road from London, the Midlands can be as little as 4 1/2 hours, Bristol area is much less making the Headland ideal for that getaway break in the early or later parts of the year when the county is much quieter and access to all parts is easy.

The hotel is open all year. Special terms apply at Christmas and New Year.

In North Cornwall, the Atlantic Ocean has carved out some of the highest and most rugged cliffs in Britain and touring the area, whether by car or on foot, is a dramatic experience. In spring the cliffs are carpeted with wild flowers and, throughout the year the area is a haven for bird-watching and nature lovers.

The historic houses of Lanhydrock (National Trust), Pencarrow and Prideaux Place are nearby and well worth a visit. Each has extensive grounds and beautiful gardens. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are Victorian gardens which are being restored to their former glory. The World Acclaimed Eden Project with its impressive 'Bio Domes' is just a pleasant drive away.

Local events include 'Obby 'Oss Day (1st.May) at Padstow and the Royal Cornwall Show at Wadebridge in early June. The St. Endellion music festival (Easter and early August) is held in the local parish church and attracts visitors from all over the world.

The area was much loved by Sir John Betjeman, the late Poet Laureate, who is buried at the tiny church of St. Enodoc.

The area is a haven for walkers, birdwatchers and naturalists either on the well-maintained coastal footpath, over the broad expanses of Bodmin Moor or in the thickly wooded Camel valley.

The Camel Trail is a 15 mile cycle track from Padstow to Bodmin Moor, cycles can be hired locally. The nearby Polzeath Beach is one of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall. Surf-boards and wet-suits are available for hire.

Sailing and wind-surfing is popular on the Camel estuary.
