Fowey and the local area:
Fowey is a picturesque historic town with narrow
winding streets leading down to one of the most beautiful harbours
on the south coast. In summer the town bustles with visitors and
the harbour is filled with boats of every kind. Take the ferry to
Polruan or Mevagissey, take a trip up the river or hire your own
boat to explore the creeks and hidden places.
Fowey is also a working port and cargo boats arrive
regularly to collect China Clay, Cruise Liners are also welcomed
during the summer months.
There are many miles of coastal footpaths around
Fowey, some centered within the harbour, while others follow the
coast to secluded beaches and headlands with stunning views.
In winter Fowey takes on a quiet air, but many
of the shops and restaurants are still open and more and more visitors
are choosing to enjoy this time of year.
Fowey has many literary connections with notable
authors such as Sir Arthur Quiller Couch and Daphne du Maurier.
An annual Festival of Arts and Literature is held in her honour
during May.
Fowey is also ideally situated for visiting other
areas and attractions in Cornwall. The world renowned Eden Project
is just 15 minutes away, while the Lost Gardens of Heligan and National
Trust properties and gardens are close by.
The north coast of Cornwall is famous for surfing
and stunning beaches and can easily be reached from Fowey.
