Established in 1882, the Fowey Hotel
is a haven of tranquillity resting on the bank of the Fowey River
Estuary. This grand lady, a tribute to great Victorian architecture,
majestically watches over the lazy yachts and quaint fishing boats
as they creep in and out of the mouth of the river.
The
Fowey Hotel is a mere 20 minute drive from the spectacular Eden
Project, hailed as a “living theatre of plants and people”. This
unique attraction illustrates perfectly that a whole new world can
be grown from the seed of imagination.
It is the perfect base from which to visit not only Eden but also
the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the China Clay museum and many of Cornwall’s
best attractions.
Ranked as one of the UK's most desirable locations,
the pretty village of Fowey is a joy to wander around, with its
myriad of charming shops and galleries. Wonderful vistas and walks
are all around, with plenty to see and do on land or water.
There is always activity on the water with yachts,
tiny passenger ferries operating across the water to Polruan, working
craft and of course, the tugboats. When a big boat comes calling,
all attention is drawn to the spectacle of its passage up the estuary
as the tiny tugs often dwarfed by the ship they tow. For those on
land, it is a bit like an eclipse as the daylight is all but temporarily
blocked out by the passing ships.
