Gurnard's Head, Zennor Holiday Cottage On Cornwall's Sleeps 7Wonderful sea views from
all the main rooms
Built in 1885, the cottage has been in the same family for three generations, ever since the artist Lillah LeHardy bought it to work in during the summer. It has been much frequented by authors and artists ever since. Quite recently it has been sensitively restored to a high standard of interior decoration and comfort. Inside the house the original wooden floors have been kept, together with the pretty tiled fireplaces in the bedrooms and the attractive curved staircase. Views of the sea and sky are truly fabulous; the conservatory is furnished with table and chairs. There are three double bedrooms and one single - 5 single beds, 1 king-sized bed (6ft) and 1 cot - with bathroom including power shower and W.C. upstairs and W.C. and basin downstairs. Also dining-room to seat eight, with a multi-fuel stove, a sitting-room with sofa, armchairs and wide screen colour TV & DVD. The large kitchen also has table and chairs and a French Range electric cooker. Central heating is included in the rent. There is a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and a large fridge/freezer. There is parking for three cars. The garden is mostly given over to hydrangea and membretia, but there is plenty of grass on which to set out the garden chairs and where children can play. To reach the cottage, drive some 200 yards through the tiny hamlet of Treen (behind the Gurnards Head hotel on the B3306) to the gate by the former coastguard boathouse. Drive 100 yards down the farm track, bear left at the fork and carry on 50 yards to Chy Barnett and garage. The beautiful sandy cove - about 300 yards below Chy Barnett, then a scramble over fairly low rocks, offers good swimming at low tide. Coastal walks are kept open by the National Trust. It is an ancient landscape. The head, with hut circles still visible, was once an iron age fort. Many fields still retain their iron age boundaries and you can still explore the ruins of Chapel Jane where a hermit lived. There are two excellent golf courses within easy reach, which can be found at Cape Cornwall and St. Ives & good surfing beaches at Sennen & Gwithian Sands near Hayle. The Gurnard's Head hotel at the top of the track provides excellent bar meals and the famous old pub, the Tinners Arms in the historic hamlet of Zennor, with its 15th century church, is nearby.
