Activity holidays in NewquayEstablished in 1982, 'Chichester Interest Holidays' are organised and run by Steve Hebdige and Sheila Harper.

Accommodation, Activity Holidays, Mineral Collecting, Heritage, Bird Watching, Walking, Archaeology

They are designed for adults of any age who have reached the stage where they would like to take part in a holiday with a purpose, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, without having to do any organising for it.

These holidays are ideal for those on their own
as well as couples and groups.

Cornwall is an ideal base as the County is rich in flora, fauna, geology, minerals, great houses and gardens, archaeology, unspoilt country and coast and has a mild climate. With the construction of new major roads it is a lot quicker to drive to Cornwall than it used to be. For example it takes about five hours to travel from Birmingham to Newquay by car

A small insight to our packages:

WALKING - Once you have walked in Cornwall you won't want to walk anywhere else.

Cornwall is a superb County for walking with different habitats, history, industrial and ancient archaeology, open moorland, woods, fields, rivers, estuaries and about two hundred and sixty-five miles of varied coastline to choose from.

All is within easy distance of Newquay, the heart of Cornwall, itself situated on a lovely part of the coast.

Our minibus transports you to the start of your walk, lead expertly by Steve Hebdige, at your pace. His wide local knowledge makes your day twice as interesting. When possible the minibus meets you with your lunch, so you do not have to carry it, then at the end of the day it is there to carry you home. Our maximum length walks are about ten miles, There is time for the photographer to catch a view so do bring your camera.

BEST OF CORNWALL - This is a varied and interesting week for the less agile. Including houses, gardens, beauty spots and Cornwall's heritage we also get off the beaten track where larger coaches fear to go. Sometimes we visit the Isles of Scilly via the vessel the Scillonian. We have seen basking shark and dolphins

CORNISH ALL SORTS - Sitting in a Bronze Age style house in the middle of Bodmin Moor learning to spin wool or smelt tin may not be the normal idea of the sort of activity one gets involved with on a package tour.

But then our weeks are different! 'Cornish Allsorts' is for those of us who enjoy being out of doors and.....'doing something interesting'. We might visit a working quarry, go rock pooling or bird watching.

A visit to a Bronze Age village could be followed by a Cornish Cream tea and the next day we might be at sea watching dolphins.

ARCHAEOLOGY - Standing in a stone circle on a bleak moor today does not convey very much to us about what it was like in the area when our ancestors quarried, dressed and transported their megaliths to the site. What is a barrow? Where did the flint come from to make the blade you have just found on the North coast of Cornwall? What is a fogou? What did houses really look like and how did people live in this Iron Age village we find ourselves in? These are the sort of questions and many more that we try to answer on our Archaeology weeks.

MINERAL COLLECTING - Cornwall is unique geologically and world famous for its minerals. Many can still be found today, especially as micro-minerals.

The Mineral collecting holidays held at the Chichester are unique and famous too! No previous knowledge is needed to enjoy this week and we welcome experts.

We have five daily collecting trips with one half day during the week. Evenings are spent in our 'Rock Shed' where we help you to identify your finds.
