Trebarwith Strand
Trebarwith's beach, known as the Strand, is located 2 miles west of Tintagel, and can be approached by minor roads leading from Delabole, Trewarmett, and Treknow.
From the latter, the highest point gives you a glimpse of an outstanding view down the steep-sided valley. It is thought, and expanded in Westward to Arthur" that here was the site of a battle around 510 AD.
The modem-day pilgrimage is of families armed with bucket and spade, continuous sand castle building and soaking up the sun.
The Strand is a real mixture of coves and spectacular high tides, outstanding sunsets, and industrial archaeology. Here in the days of shipping local slate, Trebarwith was a busy place of work.
John Betjeman, said "at low tide Trebarwith transforms into a mile long stretch of crystal clear water and weird rock formations". A favourite walk of his begins at Backways Cove, along an easy path to Tregardock and Treligga Hamlet. At its best in springtime.
