Project
The Bowshot lady is superbly appointed and comfortably
furnished to a high standard, ideal for 2 or 4 people to enjoy a relaxed
stay. The elevated location overlooking the town of Fowey allows guests
a panoramic view of rolling meadows and wooded slopes leading down to
the busy estuary.
This welcoming house has every comfort you could wish
for a pleasant holiday. It has a fully equipped kitchen including a dishwasher,
a utility room with a washing machine and freezer. At the rear of the
house is a drying room with a tumble dryer. It is a warm house benefiting
from its sunny aspect and a gas fired central heating system.
The Living Rooms
The main sitting room is at the front of the house on the ground floor
and has a large window to enjoy the inspiring view. It is well furnished
with comfortable seating for a tired guest and a TV and VCR for that odd
evening in. Through the hall is the entrance to a small, sunny conservatory
with cane chairs, ideal for a glance through the paper with an early cuppa.
There is also a downstairs cloakroom off the hall. At the rear of the
house is the dining room, furnished in a cottage style.
Upstairs is the bathroom, with bath, shower, sink and toilet.
There is also a heated towel rail.
The Bedrooms
On the first floor at the front is a large twin bedded room, with a built
in wardrobe and dressing table. This room has a TV and VCR. The window
affords a beautiful sweeping view of the river, the historic architecture
of Fowey and the surrounding countryside. The back bedroom, also on the
first floor, is of good size and has a double bed. The view on this side
is of the rear garden. This room also has a TV with a remote control.
The Front Garden and Garage
At the front of the property is a lockable garage and a short driveway
for secure parking. A short flight of steps leads to the house, passing
a sheltered sitting area to one side and a shrub planted area on the other.
The Back Garden
This garden is terraced and has been interestingly landscaped and planted
with a variety of flowering, indigenous shrubs, heathers and trees. There
are steps leading up through the garden to small paved patio areas, where
it is possible to sit and barbecue while sipping a glass of wine and enjoy
the last or the day's sunshine. If simply relaxing on a sunny day while
watching snowy white seagulls wheel overhead in an azure blue sky or just
quietly sink into a good read is your 'thing' .....then this is the place.
Fowey
The town of Fowey, immortalized in legend and contemporary books, is largely
unspoilt and retains it's charm from ages past. From the wooded slopes
of the estuary and it's picturesque coves to secret creeks and busy quayside,
it stimulates the imagination in everyone, Around the next bend in the
river could be a modern cruise liner on a visit or a training ship, like
a privateer. under sail.
The Shops
There are two local pottery shops, shops that cater For the artist, a
delicatessen, specialist bread shop, bric-a-brac and antiques, clothes
shops, chandlers, chemist and of course souvenir shops. In addition, there
are several good restaurants catering for all tastes and pubs, also serving
quality meals.
Art Galleries
One specialises in marine art and the other has a wider choice but mainly
local themes. Several local artists exhibit in contrasting styles and
using various mediums.
Architecture
Place is the most imposing structure alongside the church and occupies
a large part of the land overlooking the town. It's tower and ramparts
dominate the Fowey skyline.
St Finbarris church, with it's own lofty spire is well
worth a visit as it contains a lot of local history within it's walls.
St. Catherine's Castle guards the entrance to the estuary on the Fowey
side, while on the Polruan side is the Tudor Watchtower.
Regatta Week
Regatta week is one of the high points in the year with many competitions
for adults and children, from dinghy sailing to crab catching. There is
a fancy dress carnival, beauty pageant, fireworks and an aerial display
by The Red Arrows, weather permitting.
Daphne Du Maurier Literary Week
The Daphne Du Maurier Literary Week continues to be popular with many
attractions at the Tented Village, including several invited celebrity
guests and some not invited.
Christmas and New Year
At this time of year Fowey goes party crazy. Santa arrives by tug! ...to
switch on the fancy lights for the festival season. There is an open air
carol service in Trafalgar Square and a Christmas Fayre raffle. There
is also a well attended carol service and bell ringing in the church.
On New Year's eve most pubs have a fancy dress theme and a few fireworks.
The Eden Project
The amazing Eden Project, only 15 minutes away by car, is open all year
and is a marvelous experience for young and old.
