Built
in 1840 as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, this grade II listed chapel was
converted into living accommodation in the 1980's. At the end of 2006
it was fully renovated to provide exceptional three bedroom detached holiday
accommodation for up to six people.
ACCOMMODATION
Three bedroomed accommodation with two bathrooms.
The main bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, drawers,
bedside tables and flat-screen TV with a door leading onto the sun patio.
The twin bedroom is off the lounge area and has
two single beds with storage cupboards and original gothic windows, one
of which overlooks farm land.
The third bedroom leads off the main bedroom and
has bunk-beds and flat-screen TV. It has its own en-suite bathroom with
shower, WC and basin, fully tiled throughout with granite floor. A stable
door leads out onto the sun patio providing access back into the house
through the kitchen or lounge door to provide complete privacy, no need
to disturb guests in the main bedroom.
The raised lounge has a large welcoming woodburner
for those winter breaks although the house also has full central heating,
in addition to the warmth provided by the Aga. Triple aspect gothic windows
some of which are original overlook the surrounding farmland. The dining
table is situated overlooking the lower kitchen level. Two large leather
sofas offer comfort for all and a carved double settle contains storage
space for box games. A gothic door with shutters leads out onto the garden.
The newly fitted bespoke kitchen has an electric Aga, electric
hob, microwave, toaster, fridge and access to a freezer, plenty of cupboard
space and granite work surfaces. All utensils required for full catering
for up to six people are provided. French doors lead out to the sun patio
and garden.
The new large family bathroom offers a separate shower
cubicle, bath, WC and basin with a granite floor. A gothic window overlooks
the lane.
The south facing garden has a pathed sun patio offering
complete privacy and a lovely sun trap, steps lead up to the lawned garden
overlooking farmland. Garden furniture, barbeque, and a gas patio heater
provide everything one needs to enjoy the outdoor life in this tranquil
rural retreat.
The steps leading to the raised lawn and the bunk bedroom
are a little steep and children should be supervised.
BUDE & NORTH CORNWALL
The chapel is situated in Thurdon, North Cornwall, two
and a half miles from Kilkhampton on the A39 (the Atlantic Highway).
The chapels tranquil setting has excellent walking
and bridle paths from the doorstep. Within three quarters of a mile are
Tamar Lakes. The upper lake offers water sports including windsurfing
and sailing, childrens activity / summer schools, fishing, footpaths and
a cafe open March until October. The lower lake is a beautiful bird sanctuary
with bird watching hides.
There are several sheltered beaches in the area, Sandymouth
being the nearest, only 6 miles away. Bude and Widemouth offering some
of the finest surfing in the UK are within 9 miles.
Kilkhampton the nearest village has two pubs, a butcher,
post office, two convenience stores, a fish and chip shop and a Chinese
take away.
Being situated on the border of North Cornwall and Devon,
the chapel is in a fantastic position for exploring both Devon and Cornwall.
