Twenty-eight miles south-west of Land's End lies this enchanting cluster of islands only five of which are inhabited. A Unique and Vital Service  

"Like a bus service" was how The Cornishman newspaper once described the helicopter service from Penzance in Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly. This was not meant unkindly and actually shows how much the operation has become part of the local scene over the last 30 years.

Air services to Scilly have been operated by only three main types since 1937, and the S-61N helicopter has flown the route now for over half that time. There can be few places with such a record.

It is in fact the world's longest established scheduled passenger helicopter service, and no other community in the UK depends upon a helicopter for its air link.

The helicopter service is the effective way of meeting the demands of what is a complex operational and economic situation, and quite rightly is seen as a lifeline by the people of Scilly. To the visitor it provides the novelty of a relatively unusual mode of transport to an idyllic holiday destination.
