We offer coaching for beginner to elite surfers of any age. Based in Bude, North Cornwall, we use some of Britain's most renowned surfing beaches, many of which have been awarded with the prestigious Blue Flag or Seaside Awards for cleanliness, safety and water quality. These beaches are considered to be amongst the finest surfing breaks in Europe and proved ideal conditions for surfers of all abilities. Bude has been a Mecca for surfers since the sixties, so the area offers a superb range of surfing facilities. The surf shops provide an array of equipment and all the latest gear, from surfboards to T shirts. However, Bude itself has remained relatively unspoilt and best of all uncrowded, so you can surf in a friendly, relaxed environment without having to put up with the inevitable crowds you'll find at other surfing resorts. Big Blue's Senior Coach, Jon Price, is a British Surfing Association Level 4 Coach who is qualified to instruct any level of surfer from beginner to elite. He also trains and examines surf coaches for the British Surfing Association and is an English National Team Coach. Jon has been surfing and exploring this area of the South West for over ten years. Under his expert supervision you will be guided to some of the best & most consistently breaking surf spots in the country. Being a British Surfing Association Elite 'Level 4 Approved' Surf School means that we operate to the very highest instructional and safety standards, making sure you receive the best and safest tuition available. Our male and female instructors are all fully qualified and experienced British Surfing Association Coaches and Beach Lifeguards. We offer small group courses, with a maximum ratio of eight students to every instructor, as well as personal One-to-one tuition. If you are a beginner, you will experience catching waves right from the start of day one and will probably be standing up by the end of your first lesson. Course Prices 2007 Course Description & Aim (from novice level) Price Half Day 2 ½ - 3 hour morning/afternoon lesson. Beach safety, equipment introduction, paddling technique, catching waves, how to stand, & board control. £25 Full Day Two, 2 ½ - 3 hour lessons (can be booked as 2 half days). As half day plus: riding waves to the beach, acceleration/stalling techniques & pop up/stance refinement. . £45 Weekend / Two days One full day, one half day (Three surf sessions). As full day plus: Turning forehand & backhand, style/technique development & surf safety. £60 Two Full Days (Four surf sessions) As Two days plus: Linking turns & technique enhancement. £70 Long Weekend / Three days Two full days, one half day (Five surf sessions). As two full days plus: Introduction to 'out of depth' waves, 'S' turn combinations & techniques for paddling out/getting through waves. £85 Four Day Break Two full days, two half days (Six surf sessions). Course duration and prices are the same for all level of surfers. Prices do not include accommodation. Booking Conditions 1. In the event of adverse weather/surf conditions, Big Blue Surf School (BBSS), may cancel courses. Should this occur, any fees paid to BBSS will be returned in full. Alternatively we will accommodate you on another suitable course at your discretion. However BBSS will not refund fees paid if clients choose to cancel a booking or not to attend a course, for whatever reason, or arrive too late to participate in their lesson/s. We therefore recommend that all clients take out insurance to cover such circumstances 2. All students must be over eight and able to swim 50 metres without resting. 3. Parents/Guardians not participating in lessons attended by their children (under 16yrs) are required to remain within visual contact during lessons. 4. Parents/Guardians not participating in lessons attended by their children (under 18yrs) are required to sign a 'Health and Safety' form giving permission for their children to participate. 5.Discounts available for large families, groups, universities, schools, colleges, stag and hen parties, etc. (8 or more people) 6. BBSS, its directors and employees will not accept liability for personal injury or loss/damage of personal property sustained by participants on any courses.
