Air services to Scilly have been operated by only three main types since 1937, and the S-61N helicopter has flown the route now for over half that time. There can be few places with such a record.
It is in fact the world's longest established scheduled passenger helicopter service, and no other community in the UK depends upon a helicopter for its air link.
The helicopter service is the effective way of meeting the demands of what is a complex operational and economic situation, and quite rightly is seen as a lifeline by the people of Scilly.
