Pendeen and Land's End

Pendeen lies midway between St. Ives and Lands, tin mining was one of the major economic activities in Cornwall and has shaped Cornwall's development as well as its landscape.

Gaunt remains of engine houses perched on the cliffs reminds us of the workings below far out beneath the Atlantic ocean and because of this it is famous throughout the world beckoning photographers, artists, writers and film makers alike.

Geevor Mine is one of the few places where the whole story can be told and the boundaries of the mine include many of the ancient medieval mine workings registered almost 500 years ago, examples of the tools used can be seen in the Geevor Museum and at the County Museum Truro.

Another attraction is Pendeen Lighthouse once again the views from the top of the cliffs are breathtaking, during the summer you have the calm, idyllic scenes with stunning bright red sunsets and in the winter the Atlantic rollers crashing down along the shore with spray cascading into a fine mist.

Pendeen hosts a lovely sandy beach at Portheras, Boat Cove - a small cove which is used by local fishermen, 3 public houses, the renowned "Trewellard Meadery", shop, post office, church, petrol station, fish and chip takeaway, working pottery with shop, mining museum/gift shop. Regular bus services run from Penzance (main town 7 miles), St. Just (town 2 miles) to Pendeen.
